Lincoln Impinger Pizza Oven OPEN PROBE: No Chamber Temperature Signal
OPEN PROBE means no temperature signal is reaching the control from the baking chamber. Switch the oven off and book a service call. A technician checks the thermocouple connection and resistance (about 11 ohms) and replaces the thermocouple or oven control if needed.
High: with no temperature signal the oven cannot regulate heat.

What does Lincoln OPEN PROBE mean?
The oven control holds the baking chamber at its set temperature by reading a thermocouple probe. The probe sends a small signal that changes with heat, and the control uses it to switch the heat on and off. If that signal is missing, the control cannot regulate the chamber and shows OPEN PROBE. The operating manual lists this only as a diagnostic message with the meaning that no temperature signal is reaching the control. The service manual says to check the thermocouple connection and resistance, about 11 ohms, and to replace the thermocouple or the oven control. A probe that is unplugged, broken or open at a connector gives the same result as a failed one. Because the oven cannot sense the chamber, it should not be run for baking until the signal is back.
Affected models and control systems
Impinger II 1100 Series Digital Advantage conveyor ovens from Lincoln, such as the 1116, 1130, 1132 and 1133, electric or gas. Older Impinger I push-button ovens say PROBE FAIL for the same condition.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- OPEN PROBE on the display
- Oven not heating or heat cycling erratically
- Chamber temperature missing from the display
Possible causes
Listed in Lincoln's documentation
- No temperature signal from the baking chamber
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind OPEN PROBE on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A thermocouple connector loosened by heat cycling at the back of the control
- A thermocouple lead broken where it flexes near the oven wall
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the oven off and let it cool.
- Do not bake until the message is cleared.
- Note whether OPEN PROBE appeared suddenly or after the oven had been behaving oddly.
- Tell the technician the oven model and whether the oven is gas or electric.
How a technician diagnoses OPEN PROBE
- Read the display and confirm OPEN PROBE.
- Check the thermocouple connection at the control.
- Disconnect the thermocouple and measure its resistance, expecting about 11 ohms.
- Inspect the thermocouple lead for breaks.
- Replace the thermocouple, or the oven control if the thermocouple tests good.
- The control and thermocouple circuit are tested with the oven cool and powered on.
- Oven controls carry line voltage and gas controls.
- A wrong temperature signal can overheat the oven.
How OPEN PROBE differs from similar codes
OPEN PROBE is the 1100 Series Digital Advantage wording; PROBE FAIL is the Impinger I 1450/1451 wording for the same condition, and SHORTED PROBE is a related 1100 message.

Related Lincoln pizza oven error codes
Is OPEN PROBE the same as PROBE FAIL?
On the Impinger I 1450 and 1451, the equivalent message is PROBE FAIL.
Can the oven run without a probe signal?
The control cannot regulate the chamber, so baking should wait.
Is it always the thermocouple?
Often, but the oven control is the other part the manual names.
