Milnor MCR Coin Washer Error Code E0: Door Closed Input Lost

E0 on a Milnor MCR coin washer-extractor means the door-closed input was lost after the controller had commanded the latch locked. The controller ends the formula for safety. Do not pull on the door; wait about 25 seconds in wash or drain, or about 100 seconds in extract, then open it and start a new cycle.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the cycle ends and the machine should come out of service if it repeats.

What does Milnor error code E0 mean?

Coin-operated washers lock the door during a cycle so customers cannot reach into a moving drum. On the Milnor MCR with the 7-formula coin control, such as the MCR09E5, MCR12E5 and MCR16E5, the controller commands the latch locked and then watches the door-closed input. E0 means that input dropped away after the lock was commanded. The control cannot tell why, so it ends the formula for safety and leaves the customer with a stopped cycle and a wet load. The latch releases on a timer that depends on the step: the user can open the door after 25 seconds in wash or drain, or after 100 seconds in extract, which gives the drum time to slow down. Reasons behind E0 include the door-closed input and its switch, the latch and its alignment, wiring in the door circuit, and a door seal or clothing caught at the edge. An attendant should wait for the release time, check the edge for caught fabric, close the door firmly and start again. Repeated E0 means the washer should come out of service.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Milnor MCR coin washer-extractors with the 7-formula coin control, such as the MCR09E5, MCR12E5 and MCR16E5. The E-P Plus control on other Milnor models uses text messages such as DOOR NOT CLOSED instead.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • E0 on the display
  • Cycle ended with the load still wet
  • Door locked for a short time after the stop
  • Customers unable to restart

Possible causes

Listed in Milnor's documentation

  • Door closed input and its switch
  • Door latch and its alignment
  • Wiring in the door circuit
  • Door seal or clothing caught at the edge

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Clothing sleeve or strap pinched in the door at loading
  • Latch worn so the door shifts under spin vibration
  • Door switch connector loosened on a heavily used machine

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Do not pull on the door. Wait for the time shown by the maker: about 25 seconds in wash or drain, or about 100 seconds in extract.
  2. After that, open the door and check that nothing is caught at the edge.
  3. Close it firmly and start a new cycle.
  4. If E0 returns, take the washer out of service and call us.

How a technician diagnoses error code E0

  1. Read E0 and note the step it occurred in.
  2. Check the latch operation and door alignment.
  3. Test the door-closed input and its switch with a meter.
  4. Inspect the door circuit wiring and connectors.
  5. Check the seal for debris.
  6. Replace the switch or latch part only after the test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The latch and its door circuit are wired to live control voltage and guard against opening a spinning drum.
  • Forcing the door before the release time can injure a customer or damage the latch.
  • Testing the input means meter work behind the panel.

How error code E0 differs from similar codes

E1 reports the door closed but the latch not proven locked; E0 is the door-closed input being lost after the lock was commanded.
