Perlick Bar Refrigerator Error Code AH1: High Temperature Alarm

A flashing AH1 is the high temperature alarm: the compartment is warmer than it should be. Check the door, the condenser area and any warm product loaded recently, and press any key to silence the sound. If the cabinet stays warm after a recovery period, call us.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the cabinet still runs, but product can warm past safe holding temperatures if the alarm stays.

What does Perlick error code AH1 mean?

A bar refrigerator holds drinks and garnish at a set temperature, and the digital controller compares the compartment probe reading against the limit set for high temperature. When the compartment stays above that limit, the controller raises the alarm. The display flashes AH1, the audible alarm sounds, and the alarm LED lights. The control does not shut anything down; the compressor keeps trying to cool. The alarm exists to tell the bar that product may be getting too warm for drinks, juice or garnish. The maker's list of reasons is short and practical. A door may have stayed open too long or its gasket may leak, warm product may have been loaded in, the condenser may be dirty or crowded, or the condenser fan may be slow or stopped. Several of these fix themselves once the operator changes a habit, such as spacing out loading. If the temperature does not come back down while the door is closed and the condenser area is clear, the cause is the cooling system and not the way the cabinet is used. Pressing a key silences the sound only.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Perlick HB, HC and HD 24-inch undercounter refrigerators with the digital controller, and the HC 48-inch, per the Z2363 manual. Other Perlick controllers number their alarms differently.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • AH1 flashing on the controller
  • The audible alarm sounding
  • Bottles or juice that feel warmer than usual
  • The compressor running for long periods

Possible causes

Listed in Perlick's documentation

  • Dirty condenser area or poor clearance around the cabinet
  • Door left open or a gasket that leaks
  • Warm product loaded into the compartment
  • Condenser fan that is slow or stopped

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code AH1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Cases of room-temperature bottles stocked in one go during a bar setup
  • Ice or glassware piled against the back wall, blocking return air
  • Heat from a nearby dishwasher or fryer raising the air entering the condenser

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Make sure the condenser area is clean and nothing blocks the air around the cabinet.
  2. Check that the door closes and the gasket seals all the way around.
  3. Hold off loading warm product and give the cabinet time to recover.
  4. Press any key to silence the sound, and note how long AH1 lasts before calling.

How a technician diagnoses error code AH1

  1. Read the display and the alarm history, and ask when the door was last open for a long time.
  2. Check the compartment temperature with a calibrated thermometer against the controller reading.
  3. Inspect the condenser coil and measure airflow at the grille.
  4. Verify the condenser fan runs and spins freely.
  5. Check the compressor starts and cools, and compare suction and discharge conditions.
  6. Confirm the high-temperature alarm setting before replacing any part.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Cleaning the condenser properly means working near the compressor area and refrigerant lines.
  • If the condenser fan or compressor is the cause, testing it involves live line-voltage wiring.
  • A cabinet that will not recover needs a sealed-system check, which is refrigerant work for a licensed technician.

How error code AH1 differs from similar codes

AH1 is the high alarm and AL1 is the low alarm on this controller. They point in opposite directions.

AH1Questions about Perlick error code AH1
How do I silence the alarm?

Press and release any key. The sound stops, but the alarm condition stays until the cabinet cools.

Can warm product trigger it?

Yes. A large load of warm bottles can raise the compartment temperature above the limit for a while, and AH1 should clear as it recovers.

How long should I wait before calling?

If the door is shut and the condenser is clear, call when AH1 persists well beyond a normal recovery period.
