Model numbers in this series
Find yours on the data plate. Letters after the base number usually mark the voltage, finish or door and do not change the repair.
- KGL-40
- KGL-40-T
- KGL-100
Repairs this series usually needs
- Burner will not light
- Kettle slow to reach temperature
- Jacket pressure not building
- Tilt gear stiff
- Drawoff valve leaking
KGL kettles are heated by a gas power burner under a steam-filled jacket. Look at the data plate for KGL-40, KGL-40-T or KGL-100. The T marks a tilting model.
Gas in the air comes first: step outside the kitchen and phone the gas company before anything else. For a kettle that will not light or heats slowly, we check the gas supply, the burner and its ignition, the combustion air, and the controls. Then we look at the jacket, its relief valve, and the drawoff. Let the kettle cool before anyone cleans near it, because contents and surfaces stay hot a long time.
Gas kettles can run for decades, and many older ones are still working. If a repair would waste your money, we say that outright.

Should I keep trying?
Do not keep trying if you smell gas. Go outside and phone the gas company. Otherwise switch it off and book service so we can test ignition safely.
What does the T in KGL-40-T stand for?
Tilting. It means the kettle pours by tipping the pot forward. The data plate shows the complete model, and we use that number to line up parts before we visit.
How long should a gas kettle last?
With care, many last for years. We inspect burner, jacket and valves, and if it would not pay off, you hear that before you pay.
