The IHR is Imperial’s heavy-duty open-burner gas range. The model on the data plate, such as IHR-4, IHR-6-C or IHR-6-XB, shows the number of burners and the version. The burners are rated at 35,000 BTU per hour with a 7,000 BTU low simmer, and the standard oven is rated at 40,000 BTU per hour.
The burners use manual valves, and the oven has a 100 percent safety pilot, so if the pilot goes out the gas to the oven shuts off. The calls we see are a pilot that will not stay lit, burners with a yellow or uneven flame, and an oven that does not match its dial.
We clean burners and pilot parts, test the safety pilot and check the thermostat. Where there is a gas odor, evacuate and call the utility.

What does a 100 percent safety pilot do?
It shuts off the gas to the oven if the pilot goes out, so gas does not flow without a flame. We test it when we service the oven.
Why is my burner flame yellow?
A yellow or lazy flame usually means clogged ports or an air problem. We clean the burner and adjust it, and a gas smell means going outside to call the utility first.
