Continental Girbau Inteli Washer Error Code 1: Emergency Stop
Code 1 means the emergency stop switch has been pushed in. Turn the red knob to release it, then press STOP on the display to reset the control. If code 1 appears with the knob already released, the switch wiring needs a technician.
Low: it is a safety stop that normally clears when the knob is released.

What does Continental Girbau error code 1 mean?
Every Inteli washer has a red emergency stop switch in the control circuit. While the switch is pushed in, the circuit is open and the control will not run the drum or fill the tub. The control watches that circuit all the time, so pressing the knob mid-cycle, or bumping it against a cart, immediately stops the cycle and puts code 1 on the display, labeled as an emergency stop. This is a safety function and not a malfunction. The manual's actions are short: turn the red E-stop knob to release it, press STOP on the display to reset the alarm, and verify the wiring to the E-stop switch if the code does not clear. The manual lists no failed-part causes for this code because the usual reason is simply that the switch was pressed. When the knob is out and the code stays or keeps coming back, a broken connection between the switch and the control is what gets checked. The display text is 1 (Emergency stop).
Affected models and control systems
Continental Girbau E-Series washer-extractors with Inteli control, sheet names RMG055 and smaller and EH060 and larger. Washers with Logi, LogiPro or Vended control use ALn alarms instead.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Emergency stop switch pushed in
- Knob that does not spring fully out because the switch body is worn
- Wire at the switch terminal that has shaken loose
- Switch contacts blocked by detergent residue
Safe checks before calling for service
- Look at the red E-stop knob and make sure it is not still pressed in.
- Turn the knob in the direction of its arrows so it pops out.
- Press STOP on the display to reset the alarm, then start the cycle again.
- If code 1 comes back with the knob out, leave the panels closed and tell the technician what you did.
How a technician diagnoses error code 1
- Confirm code 1 is displayed and the E-stop knob is released.
- Verify the knob returns fully and the switch contacts open and close.
- Check the wiring from the E-stop switch to the control for loose or damaged leads.
- Test the circuit with a meter for continuity when the knob is out.
- Replace the switch if the contacts fail the test.
- The E-stop circuit is wired into the control section, and the wiring may be live when checked.
- A safety switch should be tested and replaced only by someone who understands what it protects.
- Bypassing the switch to get the washer running would remove a safety device.
How error code 1 differs from similar codes
Code 1 is the only emergency stop alarm on this table. Other numbers cover drives, doors, water and heating.
