Continental Girbau Inteli Washer Error Codes 9 and 33: General Inverter Failure
Code 9 is a general inverter failure and code 33 a failure in the inverter memory. Restart the washer once. If they return, a technician should check the inverter, the earth and the wiring between the inverter and motor.
High: the inverter has failed to operate normally and the washer is down.

What does Continental Girbau error code 9 mean?
Code 9 is the catch-all inverter failure on the Inteli control. The display shows 9 (General inverter failure) when the inverter reports a problem that does not fit one of the more specific codes. Code 33 shares the row and is a failure in the inverter memory, meaning the inverter cannot read back its stored settings correctly. The manual's checks are concrete: verify that the inverter is clean and undamaged, check the discharge resistor and earth, make sure the belt is not slipping, check the wiring from A1 to A2 and from A1 to M1, and make sure the motor phases are balanced. The sheet lists no failed-part causes. A general failure means that the technician works through the motor side and wiring before condemning the inverter, because a poor connection or a slipping belt can mimic an inverter problem. Memory failures point more directly at the inverter.
Affected models and control systems
Continental Girbau E-Series washer-extractors with Inteli control, sheet names RMG055 and smaller and EH060 and larger. Washers with Logi, LogiPro or Vended control use ALn alarms instead.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Code 9 or 33 on the display
- Drum stops or will not start
- Inverter shows damage or lint when viewed through the vent
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 9 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Belt worn smooth and slipping under load
- Terminal at A1, A2 or M1 loosened by vibration
- Moisture on the inverter after a leak nearby
Safe checks before calling for service
- Stop the program and wait for the drum to finish turning.
- Turn the washer off for one minute and restart once.
- Leave the electrical panels alone. Check that nothing is leaking or dripping near the electrical section.
- Note whether the code is 9 or 33 and tell the technician.
How a technician diagnoses error code 9
- Read the code and confirm 9 or 33.
- Verify the inverter is clean and undamaged.
- Check the discharge resistor and earth.
- Inspect the belt for slipping.
- Check the wiring A1 to A2 and A1 to M1, and confirm the motor phases are balanced.
- Replace the inverter if memory failure persists.
- Terminal checks are done on circuits that can hold dangerous charge.
- Phase balance readings are taken with the machine energized.
- Inverter replacement needs the correct parameters loaded to the new unit.
How error code 9 differs from similar codes
Code 9 is a general failure; code 10 is the default alarm for EGO inverters. Code 128 is a parameter mismatch.

Is code 9 always a bad inverter?
No. The manual lists the belt, earth and wiring before the inverter itself.
What is code 33?
A failure in the inverter memory. It shares the row with code 9.
Will a restart fix it?
Sometimes once, but a real failure returns.
