Milnor Washer-Extractor Message DOOR NOT CLOSED: Cycle Stalled
DOOR NOT CLOSED on a Milnor E-P Plus washer-extractor means the door input was not made while the washer was running. The controller stops the washer because it must not tumble or spin with a door it cannot confirm. Check the door is fully closed with nothing caught at the edge, then restart the cycle.
Medium: the cycle stops until the door input is restored.

What does Milnor DOOR NOT CLOSED mean?
A washer-extractor spins at speeds where an open door is dangerous, so the E-P Plus control on Milnor H_J, V_J, X_J and MWR_ models checks the door input throughout the cycle. If that input drops while the machine is running, the control stops the washer and shows DOOR NOT CLOSED. The linen waits in the drum and the cycle cannot go on until the control sees the door as closed again. Staff typically find a stalled cycle and wet linen. The simple causes come first: the door was not pushed closed all the way, or a piece of linen is caught at the edge and holds it a little open. Beyond that, the door switch may be out of adjustment, or the wiring and connections at the switch may be loose. The maker's step is to verify the door is closed with nothing caught at the edge. Props, tape or a bypass on the switch are not acceptable, because the door switch is what keeps the drum from turning with the door open.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Milnor washer-extractors with the E-P Plus control on the H_J, V_J, X_J and MWR_ models, such as the 30022H7J and 36026X8J. Coin-operated MCR washers use a different code, E0, for a similar problem.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- DOOR NOT CLOSED on the display
- Cycle stalled with wet linen in the drum
- Washer stopping mid-cycle
- Door that looks closed but the control disagrees
Possible causes
Listed in Milnor's documentation
- Door closing fully
- Door switch and its adjustment
- Wiring and connections at the switch
- Linen caught at the door edge
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind DOOR NOT CLOSED on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Overloaded drum pushing linen into the door seal
- Door switch actuator worn or bent from daily use
- Connector at the switch loosened by drum vibration
Safe checks before calling for service
- Verify the door is closed, as the maker says, with nothing caught at the edge.
- Never prop the door or bypass the switch.
- Restart the cycle.
- If DOOR NOT CLOSED returns with the door shut, note whether it happens at a certain point in the cycle and call us to check the door switch and its connection.
How a technician diagnoses DOOR NOT CLOSED
- Read the message and note when in the cycle it occurs.
- Check the door seal, latch and closing alignment.
- Check the door switch adjustment and actuator.
- Test the switch input with a meter.
- Inspect wiring and connectors at the switch.
- Replace the switch only after the test.
- The door switch is a safety interlock, and bridging it can let the drum spin with the door open.
- Testing the switch means meter work on live control circuits.
- Adjusting the switch without the right setting can cause the same stoppage again.
How DOOR NOT CLOSED differs from similar codes
The coin-operated MCR controller shows E0 when the door input is lost after the latch is locked; this E-P Plus message appears while the washer is running.

The door is shut. Why does it still say DOOR NOT CLOSED?
The switch may be out of adjustment or a connector may be loose. Call us.
Can I hold the door closed to finish the load?
No. The switch protects staff from a spinning drum.
Will it clear itself?
Once the door input is made, the cycle can be restarted.
