Repairs this series usually needs
- P1 probe code from a loose thermostat probe connector
- Compressor cycling five minutes on and five off
- Icing on the evaporator
- Dirty condenser and tight installation
- Draft beer units needing an external drain
The BB, ND and KC coolers, such as the BB60, BB84, BB108, ND52, ND72, ND92, KC60 and KC108, are Glastender self-contained back bar coolers sold from 2009 into 2017. Two-zone versions hold beer at one temperature and wine at another. They use R134a and a Dixell digital thermostat.
Factory set points are 34 F for the standard cooler, 50 F for white wine and 60 F for red wine. The cooler defrosts about four times a day, which is normal. The controller has no off function, so unplugging or the breaker is the way to power down.
The code we see most is P1, a probe that came loose when the grill was removed for cleaning. We check the probe, the condenser and the airflow, and tell you plainly when an older cooler is not worth repair.

What are the factory temperatures?
Standard coolers are set to 34 F, white wine units to 50 F and red wine units to 60 F. The range is adjustable from 33 to 65 F.
Does the cooler drain itself?
Self-contained units evaporate their condensate automatically, so most need no drain. Draft beer units are the exception and need an external drain for ice melt and condensate.
Why does it defrost on its own?
It runs an automatic defrost about four times a day for around 20 minutes. That is normal behavior and it keeps the evaporator coil clear of ice.
