Find yours on the data plate. Letters after the base number usually mark the voltage, finish or door and do not change the repair.
- GF14
- GF40
- GF14SD
Repairs this series usually needs
- Pilot out or will not stay lit
- Main burner will not light
- Thermostat or gas valve terminals dirty
- Delayed ignition or rolling flame
- Oil leak at the drain valve
The GF family is Dean’s millivolt gas fryer. The GF14 holds 40 lb of oil and the GF40 holds 50 lb. Look on the data plate for the GF14, GF40 or a suffix such as GF14SD. Because the fryer makes its own control power from the pilot, a kitchen can run it through an outage.
When one will not light, we start with the pilot flame, the thermocouple output and the contacts on the thermostat and gas valve, since soot and grease build up there. We also look at the flue, which needs clear space below the vent hood filters, and at the make-up air in the room.
These fryers last for years. If the frypot has leaked through, we say so before you spend money on a repair.

Read the data plate. The model begins with GF, and the 14 or 40 tells you the oil capacity class. The thermostat knob sits inside the door rather than on the front panel.
The pilot keeps going out on my GF fryer. Why?
A weak flame, a tired thermocouple or a dirty gas valve can all let the pilot drop. If you ever smell gas, leave and call the gas utility. Otherwise call us and we test it.
Is the temperature set from the front?
On these fryers the thermostat knob is inside the door. Let the oil cool before you reach in to adjust it, and call us if the oil runs hotter or cooler than the setting.
