Repairs this series usually needs
- Kettle will not light
- Electronic ignition problem
- Thermostat or gas valve problem
- Scale on water level probes
The GS, GL and GT are Vulcan’s steam jacketed gas kettles, ranging from 40 to 150 gallons. Models include the GS40ES, GS60E, GL80E, GT100E, GT125E and GT150E. A combination gas valve and electronic ignition run the burner under a thermostat.
The jacket carries a low water cut-off, a pressure limit switch and a 15 psi relief valve. When a kettle will not light, we check the cut-off first, then the ignition and the gas valve. Hard water scale builds up on the probes in kitchens, so we check them too.
Let the steam pressure release and the kettle cool before any inspection. Tell us the model, such as the GS60E or GT100E, when you book. If you smell gas near a kettle, step outside and phone the gas utility.

It lets the jacket release steam before the pressure gets too high. Never block it or tamper with it, and call us if it vents more than usual.
My kettle will not light. Why?
The low water cut-off, the ignition or the gas valve may be involved. We test each and quote the repair in writing. If you smell gas, leave and call the utility.
Is it safe to look at a hot kettle?
No. Let the steam pressure release and the kettle cool completely first. A jacketed kettle holds heat and steam long after the burner is off.
