Perlick Bar Refrigerator Error Code E1: Compartment Probe Problem
A flashing E1 means the compartment temperature probe has a problem, so the controller has lost the reading it uses to hold the set point. Check the cabinet with a thermometer and move drinks that are drifting. Do not unplug anything while the unit is powered, and call us if E1 keeps flashing.
Medium: the cabinet runs without a reliable temperature reading, so product temperature can drift.

What does Perlick error code E1 mean?
The digital LED controller on a Perlick undercounter refrigerator runs the compressor from one number: the temperature reported by the compartment probe. The controller reads that probe continuously. If the reading disappears or falls outside a believable range, the controller can no longer judge whether the cabinet is at set point. It shows E1 flashing to say the probe or its input has a problem. Without a good reading, the cabinet may run too warm or too cold, and bar staff notice that drinks are not at the temperature they expect. The maker lists four places to look: a probe plug that has loosened in the controller, a damaged probe wire in the cabinet, a probe that reads differently from the real compartment temperature, or a dead probe input on the controller itself. The first two are physical and often visible; the last two take measurement to separate. E1 is about the compartment probe only. The evaporator probe has its own code, E2, so the two should not be confused when you describe the problem on a service call.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Perlick HB, HC and HD 24-inch undercounter refrigerators with the digital LED controller, and the HC 48-inch, per the Z2363 troubleshooting table.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E1 flashing on the controller
- Drinks warmer or colder than the set point
- A cabinet that runs constantly or cycles oddly
- The audible alarm sounding
Possible causes
Listed in Perlick's documentation
- Probe plug loose in the controller
- Damaged probe wire in the cabinet
- Probe reading off from the real compartment temperature
- Dead probe input on the digital LED controller
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Probe wire pinched by a door gasket or a shelf after cleaning
- Moisture at the probe tip that makes the reading jump
- Probe wire chewed or crushed where it runs behind the liner
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check the cabinet temperature with a thermometer and move drinks or garnish that are drifting.
- If the probe plug is visible without tools, see whether it is firmly seated.
- Do not unplug anything while the unit is powered.
- Note the thermometer reading and whether E1 flashes steadily or comes and goes, and give that to us when you call.
How a technician diagnoses error code E1
- Read the code and confirm that E1, not E2, is showing.
- Compare the displayed compartment reading with a reference thermometer.
- Inspect the probe wire along its whole run for pinching and damage.
- Check the probe plug and its contacts at the controller.
- Measure the probe resistance against the temperature, and substitute a known good probe if needed.
- Replace the controller only if a good probe still shows E1.
- Reaching the probe input means working on a controller that carries live line voltage.
- Measuring a probe against temperature requires reference tools and a table of expected values.
- If the probe reads wrong for a long time, product safety depends on a quick, correct repair.
How error code E1 differs from similar codes
E1 is the compartment probe and E2 is the evaporator probe on the same controller. They are different sensors.

Is a flashing E1 urgent?
It is worth a prompt call. Without the probe, the controller cannot hold temperature well, and product can warm during a busy shift.
Can I reseat the probe myself?
Only if the plug is easy to see and reach without removing any panels, and the unit is off. If you are unsure, leave it.
Will E1 clear by itself?
A loose plug can come and go, but a damaged wire or probe will not fix itself.
