Perlick Bar Refrigerator Alarm On: What the Audible Alarm Means

The audible alarm on a Perlick bar refrigerator sounds for any alarm condition, not one particular problem. Read the code on the display, press any key to silence the sound, then check the door, condenser area and cabinet temperature. If the alarm LED stays on or comes back, call us.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the alarm reports a real condition, and the cabinet may be warming even though the sound can be silenced.

What does Perlick Alarm on / audible alarm mean?

The Perlick digital controller does not have one alarm; it has several, and the beeper and the alarm LED are shared by all of them. When the controller detects a condition such as high temperature, low temperature, a probe problem or an open door, the audible alarm sounds and the alarm LED turns on. Pressing and releasing any key silences the sound. The LED then flashes to show that the alarm was acknowledged, while the condition behind it is still there until it is corrected. That distinction matters in a busy bar, because a quiet cabinet is not the same as a healthy one. A steady LED means an active alarm nobody has acknowledged, and a flashing LED means someone has pressed the key but the cause may remain. The beeper tells you something needs attention, and the code on the display tells you what. This page covers the general alarm sound and LED; the specific codes, such as AH1, AL1, E1, E2 and OPd, each have their own entry with the causes the maker lists for them.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Perlick HB, HC and HD 24-inch undercounter refrigerators with the digital controller, per the Z2363 controller panel description. Other controller generations may sound alarms differently.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • A continuous beep from the cabinet
  • The alarm LED lit on the controller
  • A code flashing on the display
  • The LED flashing after the sound is silenced

Possible causes

Listed in Perlick's documentation

  • An alarm code showing on the display
  • Cabinet temperature drifting from set point
  • Door or condenser condition
  • A probe reading that is missing or off

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Alarm on / audible alarm on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A door left slightly ajar after stocking, held by a bottle or crate
  • An alarm that returns because the underlying condition was never cleared after the key press
  • Warm stock loaded during a rush that raises temperature past the limit

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Read the code on the display and write it down.
  2. Press and release any key to silence the sound.
  3. Check that the door is shut and the condenser area is clear, then look at the cabinet temperature.
  4. Note whether the LED is steady or flashing and which code was showing, and give both to us if you call.

How a technician diagnoses Alarm on / audible alarm

  1. Read the active code and any alarm history on the controller.
  2. Decide which condition is behind the alarm: temperature, probe or door.
  3. Compare the displayed temperature with a reference thermometer.
  4. Check the door switch, gasket and plunger if the code points to the door.
  5. Check the probes and condenser operation if the code points to temperature or probes.
  6. Clear the alarm only after the cause is corrected and the cabinet holds temperature.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The alarm is a summary, and the real cause can sit in the refrigeration circuit, which needs a licensed technician.
  • Checking probes, switches and relays means measuring on a control that carries line voltage.
  • Silencing the alarm repeatedly hides a condition that can let product warm without anyone noticing.

How Alarm on / audible alarm differs from similar codes

This entry covers the alarm sound and LED in general. Each code, such as AH1 or OPd, is a specific condition with its own checks.

Alarm on / audible alarmQuestions about Perlick Alarm on / audible alarm
What does a flashing alarm LED mean?

The alarm was acknowledged, but the condition may still exist. A steady LED means an active alarm that has not been acknowledged.

Can I turn the alarm off permanently?

We do not recommend it. The alarm warns about warm product or an open door when nobody is watching the cabinet.

The sound stopped, so is it fixed?

Not necessarily. Pressing a key only silences it, so check the code and the temperature.
