Bally Walk-In Cooler Error Code LPA: Low Pressure Alarm
LPA, Low Pressure Alarm, on a Bally walk-in evaporator with the SmartVap+ controller means suction pressure has dropped below the expected point too many times. The manual lists the trigger only. Look at the coil for frost and call a technician.
Medium: repeated low suction pressure can reduce cooling and strain the compressor.

What does Bally error code LPA mean?
Suction pressure should stay within a range that matches the room temperature and the refrigerant in use. SmartVap+ watches for dips below the point it expects, and counts them. A single dip may be harmless, but repeated dips mean the low side is regularly starved or running too cold. When the count of low pressure events becomes excessive, the controller raises the Low Pressure Alarm and shows LPA. The manual's Alarm Status Menu gives that trigger, with no causes, no steps and no figure for how many dips count. Low suction pressure can come from an iced coil, restricted refrigerant feed, low charge or an airflow problem at the evaporator. Since the same pressure signal is used by other alarms, a pressure sensor problem is first reported as PSA rather than LPA.

What you may notice
- LPA appears in the active alarm list
- Frost builds on the coil or suction line
- Cooling slows and the room warms
Possible causes
Listed in Bally's documentation
- Suction pressure dropped below expected point an excessive number of times
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code LPA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Coil iced over, cutting airflow and lowering suction pressure
- Evaporator fan not running or turning slowly
- Refrigerant feed restricted by a clogged filter drier or metering valve
- Low refrigerant charge from a slow leak
Safe checks before calling for service
- Look at the coil without opening panels and note whether it is heavily frosted.
- Check that the evaporator fans are turning and nothing blocks airflow.
- Check the room temperature and the alarm light color.
- Tell the technician what you saw on the coil and how long the room has been warm.
How a technician diagnoses error code LPA
- Read active alarms and compare the controller's suction pressure with gauges.
- Check the coil, fans and defrost operation for ice and low airflow.
- Check the filter drier and metering valve for a restriction.
- Check refrigerant charge and look for leaks.
- Correct the cause, clear the alarm and confirm suction pressure holds steady.
- Finding a restriction or leak means gauges, recovery and brazing on the refrigerant circuit.
- Fan and defrost circuits are wired at line voltage in the evaporator housing.
How error code LPA differs from similar codes
LPA counts low pressure events. LSH is low superheat, and PSA is a pressure sensor failure.

Does LPA mean the refrigerant is low?
It can, but heavy ice or a restriction cause the same pressure drop, so measurements are needed.
Why does the alarm need many events?
The manual says the pressure dropped below the expected point an excessive number of times, so a single dip does not raise it.
Is LPA the same as Pdt?
No. Pdt is a pumpdown that took too long. LPA is repeated low suction pressure.
