Montague Induction Range Error Code E01: Pan Not Accepted

E01 on a Montague Legend induction range, or one short flash after each long flash, means the induction unit does not accept the pan or has an internal wiring or coil connection problem. The unit continues to work as usual. Check the pan material and that it is centered on the heating zone.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: the manual says the unit continues to work as usual, and a pan check often clears it.

What does Montague error code E01 mean?

An induction zone heats cookware by creating a magnetic field, so it only works when a suitable pan sits on it and the field is detected correctly. The unit's control checks for a pan and for a sound connection to the coil. When the pan is not recognized, or when the control sees a wiring or coil connection problem, it shows E01 or gives one short flash after each long flash on the indicator lamp. The manual's troubleshooting chart on page 13 lists three possibilities: an unsuitable induction cooking pan, a pan not centered on the heating zone, or an internal wiring or coil connection malfunction. It states that the unit continues to work as usual. So E01 is mostly a message about the pan, and the first thing to do is check cookware, not to assume the range is damaged.

Affected models and control systems

Montague Legend electric ranges with induction units: V136EO-4I, C36-4I, RB-36-SC/R, 36-4I and M36-4I. The manual lists E01 in the Troubleshooting Chart with Error Code and Indicator Lamp Flash Code on page 13, with an induction note on page 9.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • E01 shows on the display, or the lamp flashes one short flash after each long flash
  • The zone heats weakly or not at all under that pan
  • The pan does not seem to be sensed

Possible causes

Listed in Montague's documentation

  • Unsuitable induction cooking pan
  • Pan not centered on the heating zone
  • Internal wiring or coil connection malfunction

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E01 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Pan with a warped base, so it does not sit flat on the glass
  • Pan too small for the zone, so the control does not detect it
  • Spill or residue under the pan changing how it sits

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check that the pan is made of a magnetic material by holding a magnet to its base: a magnet that sticks is a good sign.
  2. Center the pan on the zone and make sure its base is flat and clean.
  3. Try a different pan known to work on induction.
  4. If E01 returns with a good pan, note which zone and the flash pattern, and tell the technician.

How a technician diagnoses error code E01

  1. Read the code and flash pattern and note which zone shows it.
  2. Test with a known suitable pan to separate cookware from the unit.
  3. Check the coil and its wiring connections for looseness or heat discoloration, with the unit isolated.
  4. Check the connection between the induction module and the control for a loose plug.
  5. Repair the connection or replace the module only after the pan test points to the unit.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Induction units operate with high-frequency power electronics and energized supply wiring behind the panel.
  • A coil or wiring connection problem can only be checked with the unit isolated and opened, which an operator must not do.

How error code E01 differs from similar codes

E01 is about the pan or coil connection and the unit still works. E03, E04 and E05 stop the unit immediately.

E01Questions about Montague error code E01
Does E01 stop the range?

No. The manual says the unit continues to work as usual.

Is my pan the problem?

It often is. The manual lists an unsuitable pan or one not centered on the zone first.

What if a good pan still shows E01?
