Montague Induction Range Error Code E02: Pan or Overcurrent
E02 on a Montague Legend induction range, or two short flashes, means an unsuitable pan or an internal software overcurrent. The unit continues to work as usual. Check the pan material and call a technician if E02 returns with a good pan.
Low: the manual says the unit continues to work, and a pan change often settles it.
What does Montague error code E02 mean?
E02 is the second of the chart's induction messages. It reports an unsuitable pan, or an overcurrent detected in the unit's software. Overcurrent means the control measured more current in the zone's power stage than it expects, and it protects itself and the coil by reporting it. A pan that does not match the induction zone, for example one with a thin or non-magnetic base, can cause the power stage to see an unexpected load. The manual's troubleshooting chart on page 13 gives these two causes, an unsuitable induction cooking pan or an internal software overcurrent, and says the unit continues to work as usual. The corrective action in the chart is to check the pan material and to contact a service agency. There is no operator step beyond that, and the manual gives no other cause.
Affected models and control systems
Montague Legend electric ranges with induction units: V136EO-4I, C36-4I, RB-36-SC/R, 36-4I and M36-4I. The manual lists E02 in the Troubleshooting Chart with Error Code and Indicator Lamp Flash Code on page 13, with an induction note on page 9.

What you may notice
- E02 shows, or the lamp gives two short flashes
- The zone heats poorly or cuts in and out
- The pan makes an unusual buzz or hum
Possible causes
Listed in Montague's documentation
- Unsuitable induction cooking pan
- Internal software overcurrent
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E02 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Pan with a thin, uneven or partly non-magnetic base
- Very small pan on a large zone
- Pan with a damaged or warped base that vibrates on the glass
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check the pan material with a magnet and try a different, flat-bottomed induction pan.
- Make sure the pan is centered on the zone and the glass is clean.
- Turn the zone off and on once and see whether E02 returns.
- If E02 comes back with a good pan, note the zone, the pan and the flash pattern for the service call.
How a technician diagnoses error code E02
- Read the code and flash pattern, and note the zone.
- Retest with a known good induction pan.
- Check whether the same zone repeats E02 with different pans.
- Inspect the power module and its connections for heat marks, with the unit isolated.
- Replace the module or update the control only after the pan test confirms a unit problem.
- Overcurrent concerns the power stage of the induction module, which runs on live supply wiring.
- Fan, module and board work needs the unit isolated and opened by a technician.
How error code E02 differs from similar codes
E02 covers an unsuitable pan or overcurrent. E01 is a pan or coil connection message, and E03 to E06 stop the unit.

Related Montague range error codes
Is E02 caused by the pan?
It can be. The manual lists an unsuitable pan first, before the internal overcurrent.
Does the range still cook?
The manual says the unit continues to work as usual.
What does overcurrent mean?
The control measured more current than expected in the zone's power stage. The manual lists it as an internal software condition.
