Blodgett Convection Oven Error Code Hi: Over Temperature

Hi on a Blodgett Mark V oven with the IQ2T control means the oven temperature is more than 40 F above the highest setpoint. The control sounds its audible alarm and shows the code in the top display. Shut the oven off, let it cool with the door closed, and call a technician if Hi returns.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the oven is running far above its setpoint and should not be used until the cause is found.

Blodgett IQ2T control (Mark V XCEL convection oven)

What does Blodgett error code Hi mean?

The IQ2T control compares the temperature its probe reports against the setpoint you programmed. Under normal cooking it switches the heat on and off to hold that number. Hi appears when the reading climbs to more than 40 F above the highest setpoint, which tells the control that heating has gone well past what it asked for. Like every code on this control, Hi sounds an audible alarm and appears in the top display. The manual lists the meaning only and prints no operator action for this code, so the safe response is to treat it as an over-temperature condition: stop cooking, switch the oven off and let the chamber cool before anyone opens the door wide. The manual does not say why the oven ran hot, and a low-reading probe or a heat output that stays on look identical on the display.

Affected models and control systems

This page covers the Blodgett Mark V convection oven with the IQ2T control, as described in the Mark V Installation, Operation, Maintenance manual. Other control generations use different code lists.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • An audible alarm sounds and Hi shows in the top display
  • The oven chamber feels hotter than the setpoint on the display
  • Product browns or scorches faster than usual
  • The heat indicator appears to stay lit while the oven is far above setpoint

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Hi on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • The temperature probe is reading low, so the control keeps calling for heat after the chamber is already hot
  • A heat output or contactor for this oven is staying switched on after the control tells it to stop
  • The setpoint was changed during a cook and the chamber has not yet had time to cool back down

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the oven off at its power switch and keep the door closed while it cools.
  2. Do not open the door wide while the chamber is far over temperature; steam and heat come out quickly.
  3. When the oven has cooled, switch it on again at a normal setpoint and see whether Hi comes back.
  4. If Hi returns, leave the oven off and note the setpoint and how long it had been running.

How a technician diagnoses error code Hi

  1. Read the code and confirm the setpoint the control was holding when Hi appeared.
  2. Compare the chamber temperature against a calibrated reference thermometer to see whether the probe reading is true.
  3. Check the probe resistance against the manufacturer's table with the oven cold and the power off.
  4. Test whether the heat output and its contactor open when the control stops calling for heat.
  5. Replace the part that failed, and check the control only if probe and heat output pass.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Finding the cause means testing heat switching parts that carry line voltage
  • A bad probe and a stuck heat output show the same Hi on the display
  • Running the oven again to test it can overheat product and stress the door seals

How error code Hi differs from similar codes

Hi is the high-temperature alarm; Prob is the separate probe failure code on the same control, so a Hi display does not by itself mean the probe has failed.

HiQuestions about Blodgett error code Hi
Is it safe to keep cooking while Hi shows?

No. The chamber is more than 40 F above the highest setpoint, so shut the oven off and let it cool before using it again.

Will Hi clear on its own?

It may go away once the chamber cools below the limit, but the manual gives no reset step for it. If the oven overheats again, the cause is still there.

Is Hi the same as Prob?

No. Prob means the control sees a probe failure, while Hi means the measured temperature is actually far above setpoint. They can be related, but they are separate codes.
