Blodgett Convection Oven Error Code HEAT ERR: Slow Heat-Up

HEAT ERR on a Blodgett Mark V oven with the IQ2T control means the oven took more than 10 minutes to climb from 150 F to 300 F after a cool start. Press TOGGLE/CLEAR to clear the prompt, then contact a service technician because the manual points to a problem with the system.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the oven can often still heat, but it is no longer reaching temperature on time and needs service.

What does Blodgett HEAT ERR mean?

The IQ2T control times the warm-up. When the oven starts cool, below 140 F, the control watches how long the chamber takes to rise from 150 F to 300 F. If that climb takes longer than 10 minutes, it concludes that the heating system is not delivering what it should and posts HEAT ERR in the top display with the usual audible alarm. The manual describes this as pointing to a problem with the system but does not name a single part, so the code is a performance warning rather than a diagnosis. Pressing TOGGLE/CLEAR clears the prompt, and the manual then directs you to a service technician. The check only applies to a cool start, so a short rest between loads will not normally trip it. A slow climb can come from low heat output, a burner or element that is not delivering full power, restricted airflow, or a probe that reports late. Because the chamber does eventually heat, the oven may still cook, but the control has recorded that it no longer heats at the expected speed, and that usually gets worse rather than better.

Affected models and control systems

This covers the Blodgett Mark V convection oven with the IQ2T control, from the Mark V Installation, Operation, Maintenance manual. The timing figures are those printed for this control; other Blodgett controls use their own limits.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • HEAT ERR in the top display with an audible alarm
  • The oven takes noticeably longer than before to reach cooking temperature
  • Preheat finishes late or the oven never quite reaches setpoint
  • The prompt returns each morning after a cool start

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind HEAT ERR on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A heat source that no longer delivers full output, so the chamber climbs slowly through the 150 to 300 F range
  • Restricted airflow or a slow blower that keeps heat from spreading to the probe
  • A heating contactor or control output that is intermittently dropping out during warm-up

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Press TOGGLE/CLEAR once to clear the prompt, as the manual directs.
  2. Check that the door is fully closed and gaskets are seated during preheat, and that no pans or foil block the air path.
  3. Start a fresh preheat from cold and time how long it takes to reach 300 F.
  4. Do not keep restarting the oven; note the preheat time you measured and whether HEAT ERR returned, then call a technician.

How a technician diagnoses HEAT ERR

  1. Read the code and confirm it appeared on a cool start rather than after a long idle period.
  2. Time the warm-up from 150 F to 300 F against a reference thermometer.
  3. Check the fuel or power supply to the heat source and confirm it is at full rated value.
  4. Test the heating contactor or relay and the probe signal during a climb.
  5. Check the blower and airflow path, then replace the part that tested weak.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Checking heat output means working on live power or gas connections
  • The warm-up delay can come from several unrelated parts
  • Repeated restarts can stress the heating parts while the cause is unknown

How HEAT ERR differs from similar codes

HEAT ERR is a timing warning for a slow climb, whereas Hi reports a chamber that is already far above setpoint; they describe opposite heating problems.

HEAT ERRQuestions about Blodgett HEAT ERR
Can I keep cooking with HEAT ERR?

The oven may still heat, but it is no longer meeting the manual's warm-up time. Expect slow, uneven results and arrange service soon.

Will HEAT ERR clear itself?

Pressing TOGGLE/CLEAR clears the prompt, but the next slow warm-up will post it again. The underlying cause needs a technician.

Does a longer rest between batches cause HEAT ERR?

The check applies to a cool start below 140 F. A warm oven restarting between loads is not what it is measuring.
