Ice Machine Cleaning and Descaling Visits

Hard water leaves scale in ice machines, and cleaning and descaling removes what a filter alone cannot. Mineral scale collects on the evaporator and in the lines and valves, and it is heaviest where the water is hard. Scale slows the freeze, clouds the ice and strains the parts that move water and refrigerant.

What we do during a visit

We clean and descale the water path, then check the water filter, the bin, the drain and the airflow through the condenser. We look at the water distribution parts, the float or level sensors and the harvest cycle, and we look for wear. Afterward we run the machine to see that it freezes and releases ice normally.

We tell you what we find and what we cannot conclude without more testing. If a part is worn, you get a written price before we replace anything.

When to book it

Book a cleaning when ice looks cloudy, tastes off, forms in thin or hollow pieces, or when the machine makes less ice than it used to. Book one if you cannot remember the last cleaning, or if your area has hard water. Busy kitchens, bars and hotels with heavy ice use usually need cleaning more often than a quiet office does.

What to have ready and what the price depends on

Have the model label or data plate ready, and tell us how long it has been since the last cleaning and what kind of water filter is installed. Clear the area around the machine so we can reach the panels and the drain.

The cost of a cleaning depends on the type and size of the machine, how much scale has built up and how long it has been since the last service. A modular head over a large bin takes longer than a small undercounter unit, and a machine that has never been cleaned takes longer than one cleaned each season. You get the price in writing before we start.

Cleaning will not repair a failed part. If we find one, we tell you what it is and what it would take to replace it.
