ACP Amana ACE14 / MCE14 Oven Error 7-O: Temperature Sensor Open

Error 7-O on an Amana ACE14 or MCE14 touch pad speed-cook oven means the RTD temperature sensor reads open. The control cannot read the cavity temperature, so it stops heating. Pull the plug for one minute, reconnect, and keep the oven off if Error 7-O returns.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the oven cannot read its temperature and stops heating, but it is safe to leave off.

What does ACP Amana error 7-o mean?

The RTD tells the control how hot the cavity is. On the ACE14 and MCE14 its wiring runs to the high-voltage board, and the control checks the circuit continuously. Error 7-O appears when the circuit is open, which means the control sees no connection to the sensor. It cannot read the cavity temperature, so it stops heating. The error stays until power is cycled, and a technician checks the RTD and the wiring to the high-voltage board. The manual lists a broken wire inside the cavity RTD temperature sensor, a loose RTD plug at the high-voltage board, a corroded connector that breaks the circuit, and a board input that reads the open sensor wrongly. The maker advises unplugging the oven for one minute and testing again before a service call. Make sure no tray is jammed against the rear of the cavity. If Error 7-O returns, the oven cannot read its temperature and should stay off. The sensor area is hot and the high-voltage board is live, so nobody should reach into the oven.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the Amana ACE14 and MCE14 touch pad speed-cook ovens, as covered in the ACP Commercial Service and Training Manual. The letter O marks the open reading on these ovens, and the S version is the shorted one.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Error 7-O on the display
  • Heating stops
  • The error stays until power is cycled
  • The error returns at the next start

Possible causes

Listed in ACP Amana's documentation

  • Break in the wire inside the cavity RTD temperature sensor
  • RTD plug loose at the high-voltage board
  • Connector corroded, breaking the RTD circuit
  • Board input reading the open sensor wrongly

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error 7-o on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A tray jammed against the rear cavity wall that bent the sensor lead until its wire broke
  • A connector at the high-voltage board that has corroded in a steamy kitchen and lost contact

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Pull the plug for one minute, reconnect and test the oven as the maker advises.
  2. Make sure no tray is jammed against the rear of the cavity.
  3. If Error 7-O returns, keep the oven off.
  4. Do not reach into the cavity; the sensor area is hot.
  5. Tell us whether the error appears cold or after cooking.

How a technician diagnoses error 7-o

  1. Read the error and confirm it repeats cold.
  2. Inspect the cavity RTD and its lead for breaks.
  3. Measure RTD resistance at room temperature.
  4. Check the plug at the high-voltage board and the board input.
  5. Replace the RTD, wiring or board that fails the test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • An open circuit can only be proven with a meter on the sensor and wiring.
  • The sensor sits in the hot cavity, and the high-voltage board is live.
  • Checking the plug at the high-voltage board means opening the oven, which is not safe for an operator.

How error 7-o differs from similar codes

Error 7-S is the shorted reading from the same sensor. Error 7-O is the open one. The AXP20/AXP22 families use the C codes for this sensor.

Error 7-OQuestions about ACP Amana error 7-o
What does the O mean?

It stands for open, meaning the sensor circuit has no connection.

Can I keep cooking?

No. The oven cannot read its temperature, so it stops heating.

Will unplugging fix it?

Only if the cause was a momentary disturbance. If Error 7-O returns, the sensor or wiring needs testing.
