ACP Amana ACE14 / MCE14 Oven Error 7-S: Temperature Sensor Shorted
Error 7-S on an Amana ACE14 or MCE14 touch pad speed-cook oven means the RTD temperature sensor reads shorted. The control cannot read the cavity temperature and stops heating. Disconnect power for one minute, plug the oven back in, and say whether it was recently serviced.
Medium: the oven will not heat with a shorted sensor, but it is safe left off.

What does ACP Amana error 7-s mean?
On these ovens the RTD feeds the control a cavity temperature as a resistance. When the sensor circuit is shorted, the resistance collapses, and the control shows Error 7-S. It cannot read the cavity temperature, so it stops heating. The error repeats at each start until it is fixed. A pinched wire, worn insulation or moisture at the connector is the usual cause. The manual lists an RTD wire with insulation worn through and touching metal, a pinched RTD cable that has shorted against the chassis, a damp connector shorting the signal wires together, and a high-voltage board input that reads a short. The maker advises a one-minute unplug first, and the operator should say whether the oven was recently serviced, because a wire pinched under a panel is the usual reason for a short. If Error 7-S returns, keep the oven off. The wiring runs near the cavity and the boards are live, so the covers stay on. A technician traces the short with a meter.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the Amana ACE14 and MCE14 touch pad speed-cook ovens, as covered in the ACP Commercial Service and Training Manual. The S marks the shorted reading, and 7-O is the open one.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Error 7-S on the display
- The oven will not heat
- The error repeats at every start
- The error follows a recent service call
Possible causes
Listed in ACP Amana's documentation
- RTD wire insulation worn through and touching metal
- RTD cable pinched and shorted against the chassis
- Damp connector shorting the RTD signal wires together
- High-voltage board input reading a short
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error 7-s on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A sensor lead pinched when a cover was refitted after cleaning behind the oven
- A connector wet from a wash-down that bridges the two signal wires
Safe checks before calling for service
- Disconnect power for one minute and plug the oven back in.
- Say whether it was recently serviced; a wire pinched under a panel is the usual reason for a short.
- If Error 7-S returns, keep the oven off.
- Leave the covers on.
- Tell us about any recent cleaning behind or around the oven.
How a technician diagnoses error 7-s
- Read the error and confirm it repeats at start.
- Trace the RTD cable for pinch points and worn insulation.
- Measure the RTD and the cable for a short to the chassis.
- Inspect the connector for moisture.
- Repair or replace the cable, RTD or board according to the result.
- A short inside a cable bundle can only be found with a meter.
- The cable runs near hot parts and live boards.
- A wire pinched under a panel has to be freed and the panel refitted properly, which means opening the oven.
How error 7-s differs from similar codes
Error 7-O is the open reading from the same sensor, and Error 7-S is the shorted one.

Why does the service history matter?
A wire pinched under a refitted panel is the usual cause of a short.
Is the oven too hot?
No. The control cannot read the temperature, so it stops heating.
Does the error clear on its own?
It repeats at each start until the short is fixed.
