Douglas Machines Pot and Pan Washer Error Code Er01: Fill Time
Er01 means the machine exceeded the allowable fill time. The maker lists low incoming water pressure or a drain valve left open. Press Stop to clear it, check the drain valve and the water supply, and call us if Er01 returns.
Medium: the machine will not wash until the fill problem is fixed, but the usual causes are simple.

What does Douglas Machines error code Er01 mean?
A Douglas door-type pot, pan and utensil washer fills its wash tank to a set level before it heats and washes. The control gives that fill a time limit. If the tank is still not full when the time runs out, the control stops the machine and shows Er01 on the display. The maker names low incoming water pressure and a drain valve left open as the first things to check, which fits what happens in a busy kitchen: a drain valve nudged open after a tank clean-out will let the water leave as fast as it comes in, and a supply that sags when the ice machine or a pre-rinse sink is running can starve the fill. The control cannot see why the level is not rising, only that it is not. Staff see Er01 on the display, and the machine will not go on until the fill problem is dealt with. Pressing Stop clears the display, as the maker's manual says, but it does not fix anything, so the next fill will fail again if the cause is still there. A dirty level probe or a clogged strainer can lengthen the fill the same way.
Affected models and control systems
Douglas Machines door-type pot, pan and utensil washers with the digital touch pad 3125 or 5072 and PC board 3126 or 5071. Other Douglas controls use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Er01 appears while the tank is filling
- The tank is only partly full
- The machine will not start the wash
- Water can be heard running into the drain
Possible causes
Listed in Douglas Machines's documentation
- Low incoming water pressure
- Drain valve left open
- Clogged fill valve or strainer
- Dirty level probe
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Er01 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Grease and food film on the level probe that makes it report empty when the tank is full
- A strainer at the fill valve packed with scale from hard water
- A drain handle that does not seat after being bumped by a heavy rack
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press Stop to clear the code, as the maker's manual says.
- Check the drain valve is closed.
- Check the water supply valve is fully open and see whether pressure seems low.
- Try a fill again.
- If Er01 returns, call us and tell us how long the tank took to fill.
How a technician diagnoses error code Er01
- Confirm Er01 and watch a fill from empty while timing it.
- Check the drain valve seals fully and nothing is draining during fill.
- Measure supply pressure with a gauge while the fill valve is open.
- Remove and clean the fill valve strainer.
- Clean the level probe and test its signal at the board.
- Replace the valve, probe or board section only after the test names it.
- Reading supply pressure takes a gauge, and the fill valve strainer is behind panels.
- Cleaning a level probe in a hot tank carries a burn risk.
- A low pressure supply and an open drain valve give the same message, so each needs a separate test.

Does pressing Stop fix Er01?
It only clears the display. If the cause remains, the next fill will fail the same way.
Is a drain valve really enough to cause it?
Yes. If the valve is open, water leaves as fast as it enters and the level never rises.
Could the water supply be the problem?
Yes. The maker lists low incoming pressure, especially if other equipment is drawing water at the same time.
