FETCO Coffee Brewer Error Code 101: Refill Took Too Long
Code 101 on a FETCO XTS brewer means the tank did not refill within 3 minutes. The manual cites a water supply flow rate that is too low, such as a clogged water filter. The code does not clear by power cycling; reset it in the programming menu.
Medium: the brewer can often run short batches, but refills are slow and the code will keep returning until the supply is fixed.

What does FETCO error code 101 mean?
After a brew, the tank has to refill with fresh water before the next cycle, and the control gives that refill a time limit of 3 minutes. If the tank has not refilled in that time, the control posts 101. The manual lists a single cause, a water supply flow rate that is too low, and its example is a clogged water filter. It also advises watching for short potting during the brew cycle, which is a sign that the water is not arriving at the pace the brewer expects. Notice the difference from the initial fill code, 100, which times the first fill after power-up at 4 minutes. Code 101 is about the refill between brews. A power cycle leaves the error in place, so it has to be reset by hand. Once flow has been restored, go to PROGRAMMING, OTHER, ERROR CODES, Display Errors, and Reset Errors. Fixing the supply is usually quick, but resetting the code is still required for the brewer to clear it.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the FETCO CBS-2151XTS, CBS-2152XTS and CBS-2152-2XTS brewers, per the User's Guide for those models. A tank leak or unwanted fill is covered by code 102, not by 101.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- 101 appears in the error list
- Water arrives slowly when the brewer refills
- Short potting, where the pot is not filled to the usual volume
- Brewing stops after a cycle because the tank is not ready
Possible causes
Listed in FETCO's documentation
- Water supply flow rate too low
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 101 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- The inline water filter cartridge is clogged and restricts flow
- The supply shutoff or line to the brewer is partly closed or kinked
- Low building water pressure at busy times is slowing the refill
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that the water supply valve to the brewer is fully open and the supply line is not kinked.
- Look at the water filter; if the cartridge is due, note its age and replace it according to the filter's instructions.
- Resetting the power will not clear it; the manual says errors stay until reset.
- Reset errors in PROGRAMMING, OTHER, ERROR CODES, Display Errors, Reset Errors once flow is restored, and note whether 101 returns.
How a technician diagnoses error code 101
- Read the error list and confirm 101, not 100 or 102.
- Measure flow and pressure at the brewer inlet against the specification.
- Check the filter, supply valve and any inline restriction upstream.
- Test the fill valve and the level probe signals during a refill.
- Reset errors and run a brew to confirm refill within the limit.
- The fill valve and level sensing are inside the brewer
- Low flow can be upstream in the building plumbing
- Resetting alone hides the problem and the code returns
How error code 101 differs from similar codes
101 is a slow refill between brews, while 100 is a slow first fill after power-up and 102 is water arriving when it should not.

Related FETCO coffee brewer error codes
Is a clogged filter the usual cause of 101?
It is the manual's own example of a low supply flow rate, so the filter is the first place to look.
Can I keep brewing with 101?
Brewing may continue in short batches, but short potting means pots are coming out light. Fix the supply before relying on it.
How do I clear the code?
Not by power cycling. Use PROGRAMMING, OTHER, ERROR CODES, Display Errors, Reset Errors once water flow is back to normal.
