FETCO Coffee Brewer Error Code 255: Touch Pad Error
Code 255 on a FETCO XTS brewer is a touch pad error. Restart the brewer; if the error remains, reload the software, and if the problem is mechanical, reassemble correctly. The code does not clear by power cycling; reset it in the menu.
Low: an input problem that usually leaves the brewer able to heat, though the display may not respond correctly.

What does FETCO error code 255 mean?
The brewer's touch pad is monitored by the control, and 255 appears when a key gives a reading that does not belong. The manual lists two causes: a touch contact held longer than 2 minutes, and incorrect reassembly after service. A pad pressed for that long is read as stuck, whether something rests on it or the pad has shifted in its housing. The first step in the manual is to restart the brewer. If the error remains, reload the software. If the cause is mechanical, the manual says to reassemble correctly, which refers to a pad or panel that was put back wrongly after service. Power cycling does not remove it either; the error waits for a manual reset. When the pad has been freed or reassembled, go to PROGRAMMING, OTHER, ERROR CODES, Display Errors, and Reset Errors. Since the pad is part of the front panel, check first that nothing is resting on it, then leave any reassembly to a technician.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the FETCO CBS-2151XTS, CBS-2152XTS and CBS-2152-2XTS brewers, from the User's Guide for those models. 255 is separate from the software code 001 and from the water and heating codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- 255 appears in the error list
- A key seems stuck or the display responds on its own
- The touch screen is unresponsive
- The error followed recent service or cleaning
Possible causes
Listed in FETCO's documentation
- Touch contact longer than 2 minutes
- Incorrect reassembly after service
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 255 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A cleaning cloth, tray or utensil rests against the pad and keeps a key pressed
- Moisture under the touch pad overlay is making a key read as pressed
- A ribbon cable to the touch pad is pinched or half seated
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that nothing is resting on or against the touch pad, and wipe it dry.
- Restart the brewer once, as the manual directs.
- After that single restart, stop power cycling; it does not clear these errors.
- Tell the technician the code is 255 and whether the brewer was opened or the panel removed recently.
How a technician diagnoses error code 255
- Read the error list and confirm 255.
- Restart and watch whether any key reads as pressed.
- Inspect the touch pad and its cable seating for pinches or moisture.
- Reload the software if the pad reads correctly but the code remains.
- Replace the touch pad or reassemble the panel correctly, then reset errors.
- Reassembling the panel means opening the control area
- Moisture under the pad can reach the control
- Deciding between software and a physical stuck key takes testing
How error code 255 differs from similar codes
255 is about the touch pad itself, not about water or heat, so none of the fill or heater steps apply.

Can something resting on the pad cause 255?
Yes. The manual lists touch contact longer than 2 minutes, so an item pressing a key can trigger it.
What does reassemble correctly mean?
The manual says the code can follow incorrect reassembly after service, so a panel or pad put back wrongly can cause it.
Will a restart clear it?
A restart is the first step, but the manual says errors do not clear by power cycling, so reset them in the menu afterward.
