Bally Walk-In Cooler Error Code PSA: Pressure Sensor Alarm
PSA, Pressure Sensor Alarm, on a Bally walk-in evaporator with the SmartVap+ controller means the suction pressure sensor is shorted, open or reading out of range. The manual lists the alarm and its trigger only, with no repair steps. Check the alarm light color, note the room temperature, and call a technician.
Medium: the controller has lost its suction pressure reading, and the light color shows whether the system is still running.

What does Bally error code PSA mean?
The SmartVap+ controller reads suction pressure from a pressure sensor on the evaporator's suction line, and uses that reading, together with suction temperature, to manage the refrigerant feed. Because the pressure number is central to that control, the controller checks the sensor signal all the time. If the signal looks shorted, open or outside the range the sensor should produce, the controller raises the Pressure Sensor Alarm and shows PSA on the on-board display. The manual's Alarm Status Menu lists the alarm and this trigger and gives no repair steps. It also does not say how the controller behaves while the alarm is active, so use the light as your guide: red means a critical alarm and the system is not running, yellow means a non-critical alarm and the system is running. The alarm stays in the list until it is cleared.
Affected models and control systems
The SmartVap+ evaporator controller, with its on-board display or dashboard display, used with Bally walk-in evaporators. The manual is Bulletin B30-SVP-OM-2.05 for firmware 2.05 and later.

What you may notice
- PSA is listed when you scroll the active alarms with the arrow keys
- The alarm light is red or yellow
- Room temperature drifts up or the coil frosts unevenly if refrigerant feed is affected
Possible causes
Listed in Bally's documentation
- Suction pressure sensor shorted, open or out of range
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code PSA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Pressure sensor cable damaged or pinched near the evaporator
- Sensor port or fitting leaking or loose at the suction line
- Moisture in the sensor connector in the humid walk-in environment
Safe checks before calling for service
- Scroll the active alarms on the on-board display with the arrow keys and note whether the light is red or yellow.
- Check the room temperature and product to see whether the walk-in is still holding.
- Do not use the Clear Alarms setting more than once. The manual says CLA, pressed and held, clears all active alarms; if PSA returns, it is still active.
- Note the room temperature, light color and whether other alarms are listed for the service call.
How a technician diagnoses error code PSA
- Read all active alarms and history on the controller and note the light color.
- Check the sensor's wiring for damage, corrosion or a loose connector at the controller.
- Measure the sensor's signal at the controller and compare it with a gauge on the suction line.
- Check the sensor and its fitting for refrigerant leaks and a restricted port.
- Replace the sensor only after the signal test, then clear alarms and confirm a normal pressure reading.
- Comparing the sensor with a gauge means connecting to the refrigerant circuit, which requires certification and equipment.
- Measuring the sensor at the controller means working with energized low-voltage wiring in the evaporator housing.
How error code PSA differs from similar codes
PSA is the pressure sensor alarm. SSA, ASA and CSA are the matching alarms for the suction, return air and coil temperature sensors on the same controller.

Does PSA mean the refrigerant is low?
No. The manual says the sensor is shorted, open or reading out of range, which is about the sensor signal, not the charge.
Will PSA clear on its own?
The manual says the Clear Alarms setting clears active alarms. If the sensor signal is still wrong, the alarm will come back.
How urgent is it?
Check the light. Red means a critical alarm and the system is not running; yellow means the system is running.
