Bloomfield Coffee Brewer Error: Overheat Error, Water Above Maximum
Overheat Error, then Call for Service means the water temperature went above the maximum set in the program, factory 208 F (98 C). Reset with CANCEL for 3 seconds or by re-energizing, then check the brew temperature setting.
High: the brewer shuts down because the water went above its program maximum.

What does Bloomfield Overheat Error mean?
The controller keeps a maximum water temperature in its program, set at the factory to 208 F (98 C). If the probe reads above that, the brewer treats it as an over-temperature, shuts down in the same way as the Probe/Heater Error, and shows overheat error, then Call for Service. The manual lists three causes: a defective triac, a defective temperature probe or its wiring, and a brew temperature set too close to the maximum. A triac that has failed on keeps the element powered when it should be off. A probe that reads wrong can make the controller think the water is hotter than it is. A brew temperature set only a few degrees below the maximum leaves no margin, so normal overshoot trips the limit. The manual says to set the brew temperature at least 5 F below the maximum, or raise the maximum. Reset with CANCEL held for 3 seconds or by re-energizing the brewer.
Affected models and control systems
This is for Bloomfield 2030 brewers fitted with the E-Max T controller, where the water maximum is set in the program.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Overheat error and Call for Service on the display
- Flashing lights with heating switched off
- Brewed water coming out hotter than the setting
Possible causes
Listed in Bloomfield's documentation
- Defective triac
- Defective temperature probe or its wiring
- Brew temperature set too close to the maximum
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Overheat Error on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A brew temperature changed recently to a value within a few degrees of the maximum
- Steam from a warm kitchen heating the probe lead during idle periods
Safe checks before calling for service
- Hold CANCEL for 3 seconds, or cut power briefly, to reset.
- Check the brew temperature setting and make sure it is at least 5 F below the maximum.
- Run one brew cycle and watch whether the error returns.
- If it returns, note the brew temperature and the maximum setting for the technician.
How a technician diagnoses Overheat Error
- Read the code and compare the brew and maximum temperature settings.
- Check the program settings for a brew temperature too close to the maximum.
- Test the probe resistance and its wiring.
- Check the triac for failure in the on state.
- Replace the triac or probe as the tests show.
- Reading the triac and element needs a meter on live line voltage.
- Changing the maximum temperature is a service setting.
- A triac failed on can boil water in the tank.
How Overheat Error differs from similar codes
Probe/Heater Error is triggered by too little rise in 5 minutes, while Overheat Error is triggered by water above the program maximum.

Is Overheat Error the same as Probe/Heater Error?
They share the same shutdown, but different triggers.
Can I change the setting myself?
The manual says to set it at least 5 F below the maximum, which usually needs the programming steps.
Could the triac be bad?
Yes, a triac that fails on is listed as a cause.
