Bloomfield Coffee Brewer Error: Probe/Heater Error, No Heat Rise
Probe/Heater Error, then Call for Service means the heating element ran for 5 minutes and the water temperature did not rise by 2 F (1 C). Reset the brewer by holding CANCEL for 3 seconds or removing power for 5 seconds. If it returns, the probe, element or limit parts need service.
High: the brewer enters Over Temperature Mode and stops heating until reset.

What does Bloomfield Probe/Heater Error mean?
The brewer checks that it is really heating. Whenever the element runs, the control watches the temperature probe, and it expects the water to rise at least 2 F (1 C) within 5 minutes. If it does not, the control stops, enters Over Temperature Mode, turns off all elements, valves and switches, flashes its lights and shows Probe/Heater Error, then Call for Service. The manual gives several reasons. The high limit may need resetting. The high limit, element, triac, water level probe or control board may be defective. The temperature probe may be defective or poorly connected. Lime scale on the element can keep heat from reaching the water, and at high altitude the water may boil at a lower temperature than the setting. Reset by holding CANCEL for 3 seconds or removing power for 5 seconds. A reset only clears the lockout; it does not remove the cause.

What you may notice
- Probe/Heater Error and Call for Service on the display
- Lights flashing and the brewer not heating
- Water staying cool after the brewer is switched on
Possible causes
Listed in Bloomfield's documentation
- High limit needs resetting
- Defective high limit, element, triac, water level probe or control board
- Defective or poorly connected temperature probe
- Lime scale on the element
- Boiling at high altitude
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Probe/Heater Error on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Heavy lime scale on the element in a hard-water area, which is common
- A temperature probe whose wire is loose at the control
Safe checks before calling for service
- Hold CANCEL for 3 seconds, or switch off power for 5 seconds, to reset.
- Check that the brewer has water and that the supply is on.
- Let it heat and watch whether the water temperature rises.
- If the error returns, write down how long it ran before it appeared, and whether the water was warm.
How a technician diagnoses Probe/Heater Error
- Read the display and the history of resets.
- Run the Test Program and read the probe value: over 155 means a bad probe, under 15 means a bad connection.
- Check the probe at about 2000 ohms at 212 F.
- Test the high limit thermostat, triac and element with a meter.
- Descale the element and replace the part that fails.
- The element, triac and high limit run on live line voltage in the brewer.
- Reading the Test Program and ohms needs a meter.
- A triac failed on will overheat the water.
How Probe/Heater Error differs from similar codes
Overheat Error is the same shutdown but triggered by too much heat; Probe/Heater Error is triggered by too little rise in 5 minutes.

Will CANCEL fix it?
It resets the lockout, but the cause remains.
Can high altitude cause this?
Yes, the manual lists boiling at high altitude, and suggests lowering the brew temperature.
Is scale a real cause?
Yes, lime scale on the element is listed.
