Continental Girbau Inteli Washer Error Code 24: Drain Failure
Code 24 means the bath drains slowly. A technician checks the water valves, the drain valve, the drain piping, the air dome and tube, and the wiring to the pressure switch.
Medium: the cycle stops at the drain, and the cause is often a blockage that is straightforward to clear.

What does Continental Girbau error code 24 mean?
After a wash or rinse step the control opens the drain and watches the water level fall, using a pressure switch connected to the tub through an air dome and a tube. If the level falls too slowly, it displays 24 (Drain failure), which the sheet describes as a slow bath drain. The manual's checks are a list of reasons water can be slow to leave: the water valves must shut off completely, so no water keeps entering; the drain valve must work; the drain piping must not be clogged and must be properly sized; the bottom of the drain pipe must not be submerged, which would cause back pressure; and the air dome and pressure tube must be clear. The wiring to the pressure switch is checked too. The cause is left to the checks, since none is named. Many laundries have a drain trough shared by several machines, and a trough that backs up slows every washer connected to it.
Affected models and control systems
Continental Girbau E-Series washer-extractors with Inteli control, sheet names RMG055 and smaller and EH060 and larger. Washers with Logi, LogiPro or Vended control use ALn alarms instead.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Code 24 on the display
- Water still in the tub after the drain step
- Drain taking longer than usual
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 24 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Shared drain trough backing up when several washers drain together
- Lint and debris in the drain valve
- Drain pipe end sitting below the water level in the trough
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press stop and check whether water is still in the tub.
- Look at the floor drain or trough to see whether it is backing up.
- Keep the door shut while the water is hot.
- Restart once. If code 24 repeats, note whether other washers drain slowly too.
How a technician diagnoses error code 24
- Read the code and check how fast the tub drains.
- Confirm the water valves shut off completely.
- Inspect the drain valve and the drain piping for blockage and size.
- Check that the drain pipe bottom is not submerged.
- Check the air dome, the tube and the pressure switch wiring.
- Draining hot water can scald, and the drain valve is wired to the live control.
- Piping changes may need a plumber.
- Pressure switch tests are done with the control energized.
How error code 24 differs from similar codes
Code 24 is a slow drain. Code 21 is excess water and code 25 is slow filling.

Is code 24 always a blocked drain?
No. A valve that leaks water in can also keep the tub full.
Could the building drain be the cause?
Yes, especially a shared trough that backs up.
Can I drain by hand?
