Continental Girbau Inteli Washer Error Code 28: Unbalance Switch Failure
Code 28 means the unbalance switch or its circuit has failed. Spread the load, make sure the washer is level, and restart. If code 28 returns, a technician checks the switch, its wiring, the shocks and the belt.
Medium: the spin is blocked for protection, and a good load often clears it.

What does Continental Girbau error code 28 mean?
The balance switch trips when the drum swings too far during spin, and it tells the control to stop the extraction. The control also watches the switch circuit itself. If the switch or its wiring is not behaving correctly, the control shows 28 (Unbalance switch failure). The manual points to the same checks as code 11: the load size, the washer installed and leveled, the shocks and springs, the balance switch and its wiring, and the belt. Only actions are listed for this code, not causes. Code 11 comes from the inverter's own unbalance control, so the two codes cover two different sensors for the same problem of an uneven spin. A switch that has been bumped out of position, or a wire that has pulled loose, will report as a failure even though the washer itself is balanced. The switch also protects the machine, so it is not something to bypass.
Affected models and control systems
Continental Girbau E-Series washer-extractors with Inteli control, sheet names RMG055 and smaller and EH060 and larger. Washers with Logi, LogiPro or Vended control use ALn alarms instead.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Code 28 on the display
- Spin stops early or will not start
- Washer vibrates strongly during extraction
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 28 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Switch bracket knocked out of position during a service visit
- Switch wire pinched under the cabinet panel
- Washer on an uneven floor, causing repeated tripping
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press stop and open the door when it releases.
- Spread the load evenly and add items if the load is small.
- Check that the washer sits level and does not rock.
- Restart. If code 28 appears again, note the load and tell the technician.
How a technician diagnoses error code 28
- Read the code and check the load and leveling.
- Inspect the shocks and springs.
- Test the balance switch and its wiring for continuity and position.
- Check that the belt is not slipping.
- Replace the switch if it fails.
- The switch circuit is wired into the live control.
- Adjusting the switch position changes the vibration limit, which affects the safety of the machine.
- Shock work involves supporting the drum.
How error code 28 differs from similar codes
Code 28 is the balance switch failure. Code 11 is the inverter's unbalance control failure.

What is the difference between 11 and 28?
Code 11 is detected by the inverter. Code 28 is about the balance switch and its circuit.
Can I bypass the switch?
No. It protects the machine from violent spin.
Is the load always the cause?
It is the first thing to check, but the switch may be at issue.
