What does Continental Girbau error code 501 mean?
On a tilting washer the drum is lifted or lowered, and end-of-course switches tell the control when it has reached each end. If the control expects the machine to be in a given position and the switches do not agree, it stops and shows 501 (Not well positioned). The manual's action is to verify that the end-of-course tilt switch positions are correct. No specific cause is given here, only the order of checks. A switch that has moved out of adjustment, or one that has a loose wire, would make the control think the machine is somewhere else. The tilt board codes 17 and 20 are different: they report on the A10 board and its link. Code 501 is about the mechanical position and the switches that report it. Because the drum can be heavy and moves under power, nobody should reach into the tilt area while the control is live. The switches work as limits, so one that has shifted a few millimeters can change where the control believes the end of travel is, and the machine then stops short or refuses to move.

Is 501 the same as 17?
No. 17 is the tilt board. 501 is the position.
Can I tilt by hand?
No. The mechanism is heavy and can trap hands. Wait for a technician, and do not try to push the drum into position.
Will a restart help?
Only if the stop was a one-time glitch. If a switch has moved or a wire is loose, 501 returns on the next tilt.
