Continental Girbau Washer Error Code ALn / C and ALn / Prob: Heating and Probe
ALn / C is a heating alarm when auxiliary heat is programmed and the temperature does not rise as expected. ALn / Prob means the temperature probe is out of range. Check that the steam supply is on, then restart; a technician checks the steam valve and the probe.
Medium: the washer can usually run unheated programs, but hot cycles will not complete.

What does Continental Girbau error code ALn / C mean?
These two alarms both deal with bath temperature. C appears on washers that are set up for auxiliary heating, which on this sheet means steam. When a program asks for heat and the temperature does not rise as expected, the control raises the heating alarm. The manual asks first whether the machine actually has steam and is configured for it, then the steam supply, power to the steam valve, and whether the probe is in specification. Prob is raised when the temperature probe reads out of its allowed range. The probe is an NTC thermistor, so the manual checks its resistance, the wiring and the probe itself. The two causes it names are a failed probe and no steam supply. The sheet gives no figure for how many degrees the bath must rise in a given time, so we do not quote one.
Affected models and control systems
Continental Girbau E-Series washer-extractors with Logi, LogiPro or Vended control, sheet names EH020, EM025, EH060, RMG055 and smaller. Only steam-heated machines can show C.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- ALn / C or ALn / Prob on the display
- Bath stays cold in a hot program
- Temperature shown on the display looks wrong
Possible causes
Listed in Continental Girbau's documentation
- Failed probe
- No steam supply
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code ALn / C on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Steam valve that is closed upstream or has failed to open
- Plant steam pressure low or switched off for the season
- Probe connector corroded by moisture
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check whether the plant steam supply to the washer is on.
- Press stop and restart the program once.
- For Prob, notice whether the temperature on the display is far off from what the bath should be.
- Note whether the alarm is C or Prob, and tell the technician which program was running.
How a technician diagnoses error code ALn / C
- Confirm the alarm is C or Prob and whether the washer is configured for steam.
- For C, check the steam supply, pressure and power to the steam valve.
- For Prob, measure the probe resistance (NTC) against its chart.
- Inspect the probe wiring and connector.
- Replace the probe or steam valve after the tests point to it.
- The steam valve and its piping can deliver scalding steam and hot condensate.
- Probe resistance is read with the circuit isolated, then compared with the maker's chart.
- Steam supply problems may involve plant valves outside the washer.
How error code ALn / C differs from similar codes
C is a heating alarm and Prob is a probe alarm. They share a row but need different checks.

Does C mean the washer is broken?
Not always. If the plant steam is off or low, the washer cannot heat and the alarm is correct.
Can I run cold programs?
Often yes, but with Prob the control may not trust the temperature, so ask your technician first.
How is Prob different from C?
Prob means the probe reading is out of range. C means the reading is normal but the bath is not warming.
