Continental Girbau Washer Error Code ALn / SL: High Water Level
ALn / SL means the control detected a high water level for five seconds in a row. Switch the washer off at the disconnect so no more water enters. A technician should check the water valves and wiring, because a valve stuck open is the likeliest cause.
High: uncontrolled water entry can flood the area, so the washer must be stopped.

What does Continental Girbau error code ALn / SL mean?
The control watches the tub level through a pressure switch. If it reports the high level for five consecutive seconds, the control assumes that water is still coming in or is not leaving, and it displays ALn / SL to prevent an overflow. The manual draws a useful line between two cases. If the water valve stays open with the power off, the valve itself is stuck, because nothing is commanding it. If water keeps coming with the power on, the microprocessor is suspected, since it should have closed the valve. It also asks for the water valve wiring to be verified. The causes it lists are a stuck water valve and a failed microprocessor. Because the alarm is raised to prevent an overfill, switching off the washer and closing the water supply is a sensible first move. The alarm text shown is ALn / SL.

What you may notice
- ALn / SL on the display
- Water continues to run into the tub
- Tub fills past its normal level
Possible causes
Listed in Continental Girbau's documentation
- Stuck water valve
- Failed microprocessor
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code ALn / SL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Debris from the supply line jammed under a valve seat
- Pressure switch that reads high because of trapped water in the tube
- Valve wiring shorted so that the coil stays energized
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the washer off at its disconnect and close the water supply valves behind it.
- Watch whether water keeps flowing in. If it does, note that it flows with the power off.
- Do not open the cabinet or reach into the tub if water is hot.
- Tell the technician whether water kept entering with the power off, since the manual treats this as a key clue.
How a technician diagnoses error code ALn / SL
- Observe whether water keeps entering with power off or with power on.
- If it enters with power off, test and replace the stuck water valve.
- If it enters with power on, check the valve wiring and the microprocessor output.
- Check the pressure switch and air dome to rule out a false high-level reading.
- Verify valve wiring and operation in Test Mode before returning the washer to service.
- A valve that is stuck open can flood the floor and reach live electrical parts.
- Wiring tests on valve coils are done with the control energized.
- Distinguishing a stuck valve from a failed microprocessor needs testing that the operator cannot do safely.
How error code ALn / SL differs from similar codes
SL is an overfill alarm, whereas ALn / A means the level was never reached and E means water stayed after draining.

Is ALn / SL dangerous?
It can lead to an overflow, so close the water supply and switch the washer off.
Does power on or off matter?
Yes. The manual says water entering with the power off points to the valve, and water entering with the power on points to the microprocessor.
Will the washer work after a restart?
Only if the valve has freed itself. Treat it as unreliable until it is tested.
