Continental Girbau Washer Error Code ALn / VAR 7: Inverter Failure, High Heat
ALn / VAR 7 is listed in the inverter high-temperature group on the current sheet, and an older manual calls it a general inverter failure. Switch the washer off, let it cool and make sure the inverter area is clean. If it returns, a technician should test the inverter and cooling fan.
High: the drive is shut down and the washer stays out of service until the cause is found.

What does Continental Girbau error code ALn / VAR 7 mean?
Two revisions of the manual word VAR 7 differently, and both are useful. The current ST-101 sheet puts it with VAR 6, V-13 and U-55 as an inverter high-temperature alarm. The older Cod. 344739en calls it a general inverter failure. The overlap is that an inverter that overheats stops working, so the practical meaning is the same: the drive has shut down and the control shows ALn / VAR 7. The manual's advice follows the heat theory. Clean the inverter, check the fan and fan motor, make sure the cover is installed so air flows across the heatsink, and check the drain, the basket movement and the motor condition. A technician then measures motor windings and amp draw, because a motor that draws too much current heats the inverter too. The only cause the manual gives is an overheated inverter, so the work is to find out why it overheated. If the cooling and the load check out and the alarm continues, the inverter itself is replaced.
Affected models and control systems
Continental Girbau E-Series washer-extractors with Logi, LogiPro or Vended control, sheet names EH020, EM025, EH060, RMG055 and smaller. Older Cod. 344739en alarm lists describe VAR 7 as a general inverter failure.

What you may notice
- ALn / VAR 7 on the display
- Drum stops and the cycle ends
- Warm air or a burnt smell near the electrical section
Possible causes
Listed in Continental Girbau's documentation
- Overheated inverter
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code ALn / VAR 7 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Fan that has stopped turning because of lint or a seized bearing
- Motor working harder than normal because of drain restriction or tight drum
- Cover left off after a service visit, so air no longer flows over the fins
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press stop, wait for the drum to stop and turn the washer off at its disconnect.
- Let it rest for at least 30 minutes before trying again.
- Clear lint from around the machine and keep the area ventilated, without opening the electrical panels.
- If the alarm returns, tell the technician how long the machine had run and whether the room was hot.
How a technician diagnoses error code ALn / VAR 7
- Compare the alarm with the ST-101 group and the older alarm list for this control.
- Clean the inverter and check the fan and fan motor.
- Confirm the inverter cover is fitted and the airflow path is clear.
- Check the drain and basket movement for added load.
- Measure motor windings and amp draw.
- Replace the inverter only if cooling and load are normal and the alarm persists.
- The inverter sits behind a panel on live circuits and can hold dangerous charge when powered down.
- Telling an overheated inverter from a failed one needs temperature observation and measured readings.
- Motor current tests are taken with the machine energized.
How error code ALn / VAR 7 differs from similar codes
VAR 6 is the plain high-temperature entry, while VAR 7 is worded as a general failure in older manuals. Both are worked the same way.

Does VAR 7 mean the inverter has failed?
An older manual says so, but the current sheet lists it as a high-temperature alarm. A technician checks cooling first.
Why do two manuals disagree?
They word the same alarm differently. Both agree that the drive has shut down and needs service.
Can I cool it down and keep going?
One restart after cooling is fine. If it repeats, stop, because the cause is still there.
