Henny Penny Electric Fryer Error Code E-25: High Heating Current

E-25 on an electric Henny Penny pressure fryer says the heating circuit is drawing more amps than it should. Power the fryer down, let the oil cool, and look at the breaker to be sure it has not partly tripped. Do not open panels or touch wiring; leave the fryer off and call us.

Medium · inspection needed

High: excess current stresses the electrical side, and the fryer should stay off until a technician tests it.

What does Henny Penny error code E-25 mean?

An electric fryer heats through elements that draw a known current when they are switched on. The control senses that current, and when the measured amps run above what the circuit should draw, it raises E-25 and the fryer may stop heating while the problem remains. Extra current is stress on the electrical side: it can come from the supply, from wiring that is damaged or shorted, or from the elements themselves. The contactors and the current sensing are also on the list, because a part that reads wrong can report high amps that are not really flowing. The code appears only on electric fryers, so a gas fryer will not show it. The control cannot say which of the four areas is responsible, and no reading can be made from the front of the fryer. A partly tripped breaker is worth a glance because it is the one item an operator can see without tools. The display text is E-25.

Affected models and control systems

Electric Henny Penny pressure fryers such as the PFE 500 and PFE 561. Gas fryers do not show E-25.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • E-25 on the display
  • Fryer slow to heat or not heating
  • Breaker warm, partly tripped or tripping

Possible causes

Listed in Henny Penny's documentation

  • Supply voltage and breaker feeding the fryer
  • Heating element wiring
  • Heating elements themselves
  • Contactors and current sensing

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E-25 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Grease and moisture tracking across element terminals under the vat
  • A shared circuit where another heavy load pulls the supply down while the elements are on

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Power the fryer down and wait for the oil to cool.
  2. Look at the breaker to be sure it has not been partly tripped.
  3. Do not open panels or touch the wiring.
  4. Leave the fryer off and call us, as the owner's manual points to a technician for the supply, wiring and elements.
  5. Tell us the fryer's voltage and whether any breaker had been resetting.

How a technician diagnoses error code E-25

  1. Read E-25 and record the fryer's rated voltage and phase.
  2. Measure supply voltage at the fryer under load.
  3. Clamp each element leg with a meter and compare the current with the rating.
  4. Check element resistance and insulation to ground with power removed.
  5. Inspect element wiring and terminals for heat damage.
  6. Check contactors and the current sensing path before replacing elements.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Amp readings need a clamp meter on 208 to 240 V heating circuits, which is live work behind the panels.
  • High current may come from the building supply, the wiring or the elements, and each needs its own test.
  • Elements sit under a vat of oil, so handling them means the oil has to be drained and cool.

E-25Questions about Henny Penny error code E-25
Can I keep frying on E-25?

No. High current stresses the wiring, so leave the fryer off until it is tested.

Is this the same as E-27?

No. E-25 is more amps than expected; E-27 is fewer.

Will resetting the breaker fix it?

Only if the breaker was partly tripped. The cause behind a high reading still needs testing.
