Kold-Draft Ice Machine Error Code 70: Cold Water or Switch Conflict
Code 70 has two meanings depending on the board. On Rev 1.1 and 1.2 it only means very cold incoming water, and no action is needed. On Rev 1.3 it means both arm switches are closed at once, and the switches and cams need to be checked.
Medium: harmless on Rev 1.1/1.2, but a switch conflict on Rev 1.3 can stop the machine.

What does Kold-Draft error code 70 mean?
The same LED has two different jobs. On Rev 1.1 and 1.2, the controller sees the evaporator drop below 31 F during water fill only, and opens the hot gas valve to warm it to about 38 F. The display is 70 (LED 70), and the manual says it is not necessarily a malfunction: it can just mean very cold incoming water. The remedy there is no action, though incoming water above 45 F gives the best results. On Rev 1.3, Code 70 means the arm-up and arm-down cam switches are both closed, that is un-actuated, at the same time, which is not allowed. The manual's listed causes are loose or miswired switches, a bent bracket, loose cams, or a stuck arms-up or arms-down switch. The fix is to tighten the switches, wire them to Common and NC terminals, straighten the bracket, set the cams or replace a stuck switch.
Affected models and control systems
Kold-Draft GT36x, GT56x, GB56x and GB106x makers with K4B Rev 1.1 to 1.80. Read your board revision: Rev 1.1/1.2 means cold water, Rev 1.3 means a cam switch conflict.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- LED 70 on the controller
- Hot gas valve opening during fill (Rev 1.1/1.2)
- Water plate not moving (Rev 1.3)
Possible causes
Listed in Kold-Draft's documentation
- Very cold incoming water (Rev 1.1/1.2)
- Switches loose or miswired, bent bracket, loose cams, stuck arms-up or arms-down switch (Rev 1.3)
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 70 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A cold-water line from a well or a long outdoor run, in winter, dropping below 45 F
- A switch plunger gummed with ice melt residue
Safe checks before calling for service
- Find the board revision printed on the controller.
- If it is Rev 1.1 or 1.2 and the machine keeps making ice, note it and do nothing more.
- If it is Rev 1.3, do not touch the switches or cams yourself.
- Tell the technician the revision and whether the machine is still making ice.
How a technician diagnoses error code 70
- Read the code and confirm the board revision.
- On Rev 1.1/1.2 check the incoming water temperature.
- On Rev 1.3 check that both cam switches are not closed together.
- Tighten the switches and check wiring to the Common and NC terminals.
- Straighten the bracket, set the cams, or replace a stuck switch.
- The cam switches are close to the actuator and line-voltage controls.
- Setting the cams needs the manual's positions.
- Reading the revision and meaning correctly avoids needless repairs.
How error code 70 differs from similar codes
Rev 1.1/1.2 treat Code 70 as an information code about cold water; Rev 1.3 treats it as a switch conflict.
