What does MEIKO error code 407 mean?
The demineralization cartridge removes minerals from the water used for the final rinse. Once its capacity is used up, minerals pass through into the rinse and dry on glasses as spots and a cloudy film. The M-iClean U tracks this and, after the early warning 406, it shows message 407 to tell staff to change the cartridge. The manual treats it as an instruction to the operator, not a breakdown, and the machine continues to wash. What you lose is the quality of the final rinse, so glassware is the first place the problem shows. The maker's step is to replace the cartridge. The housing should be opened only with the machine off and the water supply valve shut. If 407 stays on after a fresh cartridge, the cartridge may not be seated or connected properly, or the cartridge counter may not have been cleared.
Affected models and control systems
This is for Meiko M-iClean U undercounter dishwashers fitted with a demineralization cartridge. Machines without one, and other Meiko ranges, use different messages.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

- Cartridge used up
- Water hardness that wears cartridges quickly
- Cartridge not seated or connected properly after a change
- Cartridge counter or reset that is not cleared
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 407 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Cartridge ordered but never fitted after the 406 notice
- Wrong cartridge type installed, so the control does not accept it
Safe checks before calling for service
- Replace the demineralization cartridge, as the maker says.
- Switch the machine off and shut the water supply valve before you open the housing.
- Seat the new cartridge as shown in the owner's manual and open the water again.
- Check around the housing for drips after you restart.
- If 407 stays on after a new cartridge, note the cartridge type and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 407
- Confirm 407 and ask when the cartridge was last changed.
- Check that the cartridge is the correct type and fully seated.
- Inspect the housing connections for leaks or kinks.
- Test the rinse water for mineral content.
- Check the cartridge counter reset in the control.
- Replace the cartridge or fix the connection only after those tests.
- A cartridge housing that is opened with the water on can flood the cabinet near live wiring.
- Clearing the cartridge counter is a control setting that has to match the part that was fitted.
- Hard water can mask a cartridge problem, so we test the water itself before replacing parts.
How error code 407 differs from similar codes
Message 406 is the earlier warning, and 407 is the instruction to act.

Can I keep washing with 407 showing?
The machine still washes, but glassware will spot and film because the rinse water is no longer demineralized.
Why does 407 stay on after a new cartridge?
The cartridge may be loose or the counter was not cleared. Reseat it, and if it persists call us.
