Milnor Washer-Extractor Error Code E7 7: Vibration Switch Input

E7 7 means the vibration switch is tripped at power-up or during extract. At power-up it usually means the installer did not untie the vibration switch actuator; during extract, the machine recycles. Do not run the machine until the cause is checked.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the switch protects against excessive vibration, so the machine should not run until the cause is checked.

What does Milnor error code E7 7 mean?

A Milnor washer-extractor has a vibration switch that trips when the drum shakes too much, as when a load is badly out of balance. The controller checks it at power-up and during extract. If it is tripped, the controller shows E7 followed by 7, with the message “Vibration Switch Input Error”.

The two situations are treated differently. At power-up, the code prevents operation, and the manual says it usually means the installer did not untie the vibration switch actuator, the part that holds it still for shipping. During extract, the machine recycles instead. That points to an unbalanced load or real excess vibration. The manual does not describe a separate reset for the code and says nothing about adjusting the switch. A new install that shows E7 7 on its first power-up is an installation matter. An older machine that starts to trip during extract is more likely a loading, mounting or bearing question.

What you may notice

  • E7 7 on the display at power-up, so the machine will not start
  • During extract, the drum slows and the machine recycles
  • Heavy shaking before the code appears

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E7 7 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • The vibration switch is tripped at power-up or during extract
  • At power-up, the installer did not untie the vibration switch actuator
  • Load out of balance during extract
  • Machine not bolted down level, so it rocks
  • Vibration switch set too sensitive or worn

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. On a newly installed machine, tell the installer that the code appeared at the first power-up.
  2. On a machine in use, check that the load is not packed to one side or too small.
  3. Do not hold the drum or reach into the cabinet while the machine is moving.
  4. Tell the technician whether the code appears at power-up or only in extract.

How a technician diagnoses error code E7 7

  1. Read the code and note when it occurs.
  2. At power-up, check that the vibration switch actuator is free and not tied.
  3. During extract, check load balance, leveling and mounting bolts.
  4. Test the switch input at the controller and the switch contacts.
  5. Adjust, free or replace the switch as found.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The switch sits near the drum and moving parts, and handling it near a spinning drum is dangerous.
  • Adjusting the switch changes the machine's safety trip point and needs the manual's procedure.
  • Excess vibration can be a bearing or suspension issue that needs inspection.

How error code E7 7 differs from similar codes

E7 7 is the only E7 code in this group that can trip during extract rather than only at power-up.
