Traulsen Refrigerator Error Code Call Service: Possible System Leak

Call Service (system leak) appears on Traulsen R and A Series cabinets with an Intela-Traul control when the discharge temperature does not rise 45 F within five minutes of a compressor start. The control concludes the system may be leaking refrigerant. Silence the alarm, check the cabinet temperature, move perishable food if it is warm, and call us.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the control suspects a refrigerant leak, and cooling may be lost until a technician repairs it.

What does Traulsen Call Service mean?

After every compressor start, the Intela-Traul control watches the discharge temperature, the temperature of the refrigerant leaving the compressor. A healthy system heats that line up quickly. If the discharge temperature does not rise 45 F within five minutes, the control concludes that there is too little refrigerant moving to carry the heat, and that the system may be leaking. The display then shows Call Service (system leak). The text stays on until a technician repairs the unit, and the alarm repeats after 24 hours if it was silenced. The message appears on R and A Series cabinets, such as the RHT232WUT and RLT132WUT, and does not appear on remote models. The manual lists a low refrigerant charge, a refrigerant leak in the sealed system, a discharge sensor reading low, and a compressor not pumping as it should. Only a technician can tell these apart, so keep an eye on the cabinet temperature meanwhile.

Affected models and control systems

Traulsen R and A Series cabinets with the Intela-Traul control, such as the RHT232WUT and RLT132WUT. Remote models do not show this message.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Call Service (system leak) shows on the control
  • An alarm sounds and returns after 24 hours if silenced
  • Cabinet temperature rises over time

Possible causes

Listed in Traulsen's documentation

  • Low refrigerant charge
  • A refrigerant leak in the sealed system
  • A discharge sensor reading low
  • Compressor not pumping as it should

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Call Service on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A slow leak at a coil joint worn by years of vibration and condensate
  • A discharge sensor lead that has slipped off the line it reads

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Press the alarm cancel button to silence the alarm.
  2. Take a thermometer reading before deciding what to move.
  3. Move perishable food to another cooler if the cabinet is warm.
  4. Do not try to open panels or add refrigerant, and note the time the message first appeared.

How a technician diagnoses Call Service

  1. Read the message and check the cabinet temperature.
  2. Verify the discharge sensor reading with a thermometer on the line.
  3. Leak-check the sealed system with a certified detector.
  4. Measure pressures and compressor performance.
  5. Repair the leak, evacuate and recharge to specification.
  6. Clear the message after the repair.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Refrigerant work requires certified handling, gauges and recovery equipment.
  • A leak must be found and repaired before any charge is added.
  • Compressor and fan wiring carry live voltage.

How Call Service differs from similar codes

Call Service (system leak) is a discharge-temperature test after each compressor start. Clean Filter is the condenser clean alarm, and CAB, COL and DIS Snr are sensor messages.
