Traulsen Refrigerator Error Code Lo CAb: Low Cabinet Temperature
Lo CAb means a Traulsen cabinet with an Intela-Traul control has dropped below its low temperature limit. Silence the alarm, move any frozen produce or drinks, and make sure nothing blocks the air vents. If it comes back, call us to check the sensors and settings.
Medium: product can freeze and energy is wasted, but the cabinet is still running.

What does Traulsen error code Lo CAb mean?
Lo CAb is the low cabinet temperature alarm on Traulsen cabinets with an Intela-Traul control. The control compares the cabinet air with its low limit, and when the air falls below it, the audible alarm sounds. If the cabinet stays too cold, the alarm repeats after five minutes along with the words Call Service. You may see it on a refrigerator such as the RHT232WUT or on a freezer like the RLT132WUT. A cabinet that runs too cold can freeze produce and drinks and wastes power. A lightly loaded box can swing low because there is little product to hold the temperature steady, but a cabinet that keeps dropping points to a sensor reading wrongly, a stuck relay, or a set point or alarm limit that was changed.
Affected models and control systems
Traulsen cabinets with an Intela-Traul control; refrigerators and freezers. The stuck evaporator relay cause applies to TS models.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Audible alarm and Lo CAb on the display
- Alarm repeating with Call Service
- Produce, drinks or dairy frozen on the shelves
- Frost on the evaporator cover or heavy ice on the back wall
Possible causes
Listed in Traulsen's documentation
- Little or no product in the unit so the control swings low
- Sensors reading incorrectly
- A stuck evaporator relay on TS models
- Set point or alarm limits changed
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Lo CAb on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A cabinet air sensor displaced from its bracket and sitting in the coldest air stream
- A set point lowered by mistake when someone pressed the keypad
- Product blocking the return vent so cold air pools
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the alarm cancel button to silence the alarm.
- Look for frozen produce or drinks and move them to a warmer shelf.
- Make sure nothing is blocking the air vents.
- Check the cabinet temperature with a thermometer.
- Call us if Lo CAb returns and tell us what the thermometer showed.
How a technician diagnoses error code Lo CAb
- Compare the display with a calibrated thermometer.
- Review the set point and alarm limit settings.
- Check the cabinet air sensor position and its resistance reading.
- On TS models, test the evaporator relay to see whether it releases when the cabinet is satisfied.
- Check the evaporator fan and airflow paths.
- Replace the sensor or relay only after the test shows it is the cause.
- Testing the relay and sensor circuit means working in the control area with powered low-voltage and line wiring.
- The set point and alarm limits live in the control's service settings and have to match the product.
- A sensor reading that is slightly off needs a calibrated reference to prove, not a guess.
How error code Lo CAb differs from similar codes
On TS models the manual names a stuck evaporator relay as one cause, which does not apply to every Intela-Traul cabinet.

Is Lo CAb as serious as HI CAb?
It is usually less urgent for food safety, but it can freeze product and waste power.
Why do I get it when the cabinet is nearly empty?
With little product the air temperature swings low easily, so the control may alarm.
Will it clear on its own?
If the cabinet warms back above the limit, yes. If it stays cold, a sensor, relay or setting is likely involved.
