What does TurboChef error code F9 mean?

F9 appears on the HhC 1618, 2020 and 2620 conveyor ovens when the belt stops. The belt carries food through the oven, so cooking stops and food may sit in the heat until it is cleared. The owner's manual lists an oven that is not clean, too much weight on the belt, an obstruction blocking the belt, damaged parts and overheated conveyor drives. The control watches belt movement and stops the run when the belt does not move as commanded. Overloads and obstructions are the operator's to clear, but only when the oven is off and cool and the belt is stopped. A drive that is too hot, from dirty filters, stopped fans or a hot room, can also stop the belt. In a kitchen with a hot line, the room around the oven may be the whole cause. The belt drive and gearbox are a technician's work.

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. With the oven off, cool and the belt stopped, remove any overload or obstruction.
  2. Make sure the filters are clean and the fans are running.
  3. Make sure the room around the oven is not above 100 F (38 C).
  4. Restart the oven.
  5. If F9 returns, call us and do not reach into the cavity while it is hot.

How a technician diagnoses error code F9

  1. Read the message and let the oven cool.
  2. Check the belt for obstruction, load and tracking.
  3. Inspect the drive cooling, filters and fans.
  4. Test the drive motor and gearbox for binding.
  5. Check the ambient temperature around the oven.
  6. Replace the failed drive part after the test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Reaching into the belt area exposes you to a moving belt and a hot cavity.
  • The drive motor circuit carries full voltage.
  • A gearbox problem needs disassembly and the oven's own parts data.
