Repairs this series usually needs
- Dryer with no heat from the sail switch, high limit or ignition
- Burner that lights and then shuts off
- Stop on a high exhaust temperature message
- Display reading dSFL
- Coin dryer that does not take coins or give time
The Phase 5 dryers are older American Dryer machines that are still working laundries: the coin dryers AD-15, AD-25, AD-30, AD-50 and AD-75, and the AD-170 on-premise dryer. The model and serial number are on the dryer data plate.
Several problems here have simple causes. A dryer that stops on a high exhaust temperature message usually has lint in the duct or a poor exhaust path. A display that reads dSFL points to the heat sensor circuit, and the controller has its own small fuse that is often the real problem, so we check the fuse before we condemn the controller. With no heat, we test the sail switch, the burner high limit, the ignition control and the gas valve.
Gas is shut off at the valve before we service. We repair older Phase 5 dryers when parts can be found, put the estimate in writing first, and give a straight answer when a dryer has run its course.

What does dSFL mean on the display?
It points to the heat sensor circuit or a blown fuse inside the Phase 5 controller. We test the circuit and replace the small fuse if it is blown, so the controller is not replaced for nothing.
Why does my dryer stop on an exhaust temperature message?
The exhaust got too hot, most often because lint or a crushed duct limits airflow. We clean and check the exhaust path first, then test the temperature sensing, so the dryer is not repaired for a problem that is really venting.
Can you repair a coin meter dryer from the 1990s?
Often, yes. We confirm parts for your model before the visit, and the Phase 5 controller has a small internal fuse that cures many problems cheaply. If the dryer is not worth repairing, we talk it through with you.
