Repairs this series usually needs
- Rinse below 180F
- Tripped high limit with no heat
- Scaled elements
- T and P relief valve dripping
- Capacity too small for the dishmachine
The Imperial S-Series are Hatco’s electric booster water heaters, built around a 16 gallon tank and sold in sizes from the S-6 to the S-57. A booster raises building hot water to the temperature a dishmachine needs for its final rinse. The model is on the data plate, and it tells us the kilowatts and the voltage.
Each heater has an immersion thermostat, a high temperature limit and low-water cut-off probes, which protect the elements. When the rinse falls short, we check the thermostat setting, then the elements, the contactor and the limit. The maker says water over 3.0 grains per gallon must be softened, and water often is harder than that, so scale is a common cause.
Switch the heater off at the breaker before anyone looks at it. A written price is given before anything is replaced.

Where is the model on an Imperial S heater?
It is on the data plate. It reads S-6 through S-57 and includes the voltage and kilowatts. Keep it at hand when you call, and we confirm parts first.
Why is my rinse below 180F?
The thermostat setting, scaled elements or a tripped high limit are common causes. Switch the heater off at the breaker before anyone looks, and call us. We measure and test each part.
Does water hardness matter for a booster?
Yes. The maker says water over 3.0 grains per gallon must be softened, and liming damage is not covered by its warranty. Ask your water supplier or us about your water.
