The PR, PC and PCL systems are Kolpak’s older refrigeration packages for walk-ins. The defrost is run by a time clock, part 550005663 for air defrost or 550005664 for electric defrost. The default on the air defrost clock is every 6 hours for 30 minutes. The controls also carry alarm setpoints called HAO, LAO and tAd, which can trip during heavy loading.
When a coil ices up on one of these systems, the clock and the defrost parts are the first place we look, with the door seal close behind. The high-pressure cut-out is a safety control, so repeated tripping points to a dirty condenser or a hot ambient.
These systems are older and still in service. They are still repairable in many cases, and where they are not, we say so.

It starts and stops defrost at set times. If it stops cycling, ice builds on the coil and the walk-in loses cold. A clock that sticks lets ice build up on the coil.
What are HAO, LAO and tAd?
They are alarm setpoints for high temperature, low temperature and the alarm delay. During loading the box can pass a limit and the alarm sounds.
