Repairs this series usually needs
- Pilot out
- Thermocouple output too low
- Oven temperature off
- Burners uneven or lifting flame
- Convection fan motor overload
The 136 series is the 36 in. Montague Legend heavy duty gas range. The number after the dash describes the top layout, from open burners to griddles, hot tops, French tops and planchas, so a 136-5 and a 136-8 are different tops. A V in front means a convection oven, and a 36 with no 1 means a cabinet base.
These ranges rely on standing pilots with an H15HR pilot safety valve. The thermocouple must put out more than 8 millivolts with a steady blue pilot flame. A yellow pilot needs cleaning at the pilot orifice, and uneven burners point to the orifice size or the air shutter.
Smelling gas calls for leaving at once and calling the gas utility from a safe place outside. Older ranges are repaired regularly, with a frank answer when a repair would not be worth the money.

What is the V in V136-5?
The V marks a convection oven. A 136 with no V has a standard oven, and a 36 with no 1 is a cabinet base.
What does thermocouple output mean for my pilot?
The maker says it must be more than 8 millivolts with a steady blue pilot flame. Lower output means the pilot safety valve may drop out.
Do you repair older Montague ranges?
Yes. Older Montague ranges are on our list. A written price comes first, and a range past a sensible repair gets an honest verdict. Our workmanship carries a 30-day warranty.
