The Achiever Hotplate, or AHP, is a gas hotplate that sits on a counter. Model numbers include AHP212, AHP424, AHP636 and AHP848. The controls are manual, so there are no electronic parts to fail. The work is in the gas side: pilots, burners, valves and the supply.
On an AHP we clean and check the burner ports, the pilots and the valves, and look at the flame. A yellow or lifting flame usually points to dirt, an air shutter that needs adjusting or a gas pressure issue. If you ever catch the odor of gas near a hotplate, walk out and phone the utility from the sidewalk.
Plenty of older hotplates are worth repairing, and one that is not gets an honest verdict. You get the figure in writing before work begins, and labor is guaranteed for a month.

Why is my hotplate flame yellow?
Dirt in the burner is the usual reason, or an air setting that has drifted. Cleaning the ports and resetting the flame normally cures it.
