Repairs this series usually needs
- F2 over-temperature code
- F3 or F4 temperature probe codes
- F1, F5, F6 or F8 temperature controller codes
- Ignition or pilot trouble on gas models
- F7 program over 24 hours on programmable models
These are Southbend’s gas convection ovens, sold under the SilverStar and Marathoner Gold names. The model number on the data plate, such as GB/15PC, SLGB/15SC or SLGS/22CCH, ends with the control type: PC for programmable, RT for rack timer, SC for solid-state and CCH for the CCH control. The F codes apply to the programmable and rack-timer models.
When a gas Southbend gives an F code, we use it as a starting point. F3 and F4 send us to the probe and its wiring. F2 sends us to the gas valve and the controller. The F1, F5, F6 and F8 codes point to the temperature controller. Ignition and pilot problems get the gas supply checked first.
Whenever gas is in the air, exit and notify the utility from outdoors. We repair older units too and give a written price first.

Southbend convection ovens codes
What does the end of the model number mean?
The letters after the slash show the control: PC is programmable, RT is a rack timer, SC is solid-state and CCH is the CCH control. The F codes apply to PC and RT models.
Are Marathoner Gold and SilverStar the same oven?
They are sold as one family under two names. Both names are on our service list, and the number on the data plate tells us which parts fit your oven.
Do you repair these ovens when they are out of warranty?
Yes. Most kitchens keep them working for years past warranty. The price is written before any work, and a repair that would not pay off gets a candid answer.
