Common Southbend convection ovens problems
In plain words, the way kitchen and laundry staff describe them when they call.
F code on the display
Oven goes over temperature
Probe error shown
Err GA:S on an EZ Com oven
Control button stuck
Southbend convection ovens come with several controls: programmable (PC), rack timer (RT), solid-state (SC) and CCH. The gas models include the GB and SLGB lines, and the electric models include the EB, SLEB and SLES. The older EZ Com gas ovens, such as the CG/12SC, use an RTD controller.
On the programmable and rack-timer models, F2 means the oven went over its maximum temperature, F3 is an open probe and F4 a shorted probe. F7 means the total cook time in a program exceeds 24 hours, which is a programming matter and appears on programmable models only. F1, F5, F6 and F8 point to the temperature controller.
On an EZ Com oven, Err CP:U indicates the controller failed its memory check and needs replacing. Err bu:tn means a panel button is stuck or was held down at startup. Err FA:n means a limit switch or blower motor switch has tripped. Err GA:S is a gas error, and Err Pr:0b means a probe is open or shorted. After the cause is fixed, switching the oven off and back on clears the error. Parts are confirmed before the visit, the price is written before work, and repairs carry a 30-day warranty on our work.

F2 means the oven interior went above the maximum temperature. We check the probe, the controller and the heating circuit. Turn the oven off and let it cool first.
What does Err GA:S mean on my Southbend EZ Com oven?
It is a gas error with several possible causes. Check that the gas valve is open, and if you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas utility. Otherwise call us to test ignition and the gas valve.
Do the F codes apply to every Southbend oven?
They apply to programmable and rack-timer models. EZ Com ovens use Err messages instead. Give us the model from the data plate and we will confirm which applies.
