Scotsman Ice Machine Error Code 4: Discharge Temperature High (ELITE)
Code 4 on a Scotsman Prodigy ELITE or Prodigy Eclipse EH330/EH430 means the discharge temperature is too high, so the refrigeration system is not rejecting heat well enough. What does Scotsman error code 4 mean?
The compressor sends hot refrigerant gas to the condenser, where it should give up its heat to room air or to water. The controller watches the discharge temperature on that hot side. If heat is not being rejected well, the discharge temperature climbs, and at a set point the controller shows code 4 and slows or stops the machine to protect the compressor. Staff see a machine that slows, stops or shows 4 on the display. The cause is often a heat or airflow problem rather than a failed part. The manual lists a dirty condenser coil or weak fan, low water flow on a water-cooled machine, hot room air recirculating into the machine, and a refrigerant charge that leaves discharge too hot. A coil clogged with dust and grease behaves exactly like a hot room, and both let the temperature climb.
