Bally Walk-In Cooler Error Code dor: Door Open Alarm

Dor, Door Open Alarm (DOOR SWITCH), on a Bally walk-in evaporator with the SmartVap+ controller means the door has been open with the room warming for longer than the door alarm delay, which defaults to 30 minutes. Close the door fully and check that it latches.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: an open door lets the room warm and wastes energy, though closing the door usually fixes it.

What does Bally error code Dor mean?

SmartVap+ takes a signal from the door switch and, when the door is open, watches the room temperature. The alarm needs two things at once: the door open, and the room temperature 5 degrees above ROOM TEMP plus AIR TEMP DIFF, for the whole DOOR ALARM DELAY, which defaults to 30 minutes. When both hold for that long, the controller raises the Door Open Alarm and shows dor, labeled DOOR SWITCH. Requiring warming as well as an open door stops the alarm from going off during a normal delivery with the room still cold. The manual lists the trigger and gives no repair steps. Note that the alarm is based on the switch signal, so a door that is physically closed but reads open, or the reverse, will give a misleading result.

Affected models and control systems

What you may notice

  • Dor or DOOR SWITCH shows in the active alarm list
  • The walk-in door is ajar or propped open
  • Room temperature rises while the door is open

Possible causes

Listed in Bally's documentation

  • Door open and room temperature 5 degrees above ROOM TEMP + AIR TEMP DIFF for the DOOR ALARM DELAY time

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Dor on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Door not latching because of a worn latch, bent hinge or damaged gasket
  • Door switch out of adjustment, so it reads open when the door is shut
  • Door propped open during a long delivery or cleaning
  • Switch wiring pinched or corroded, giving an open signal

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Close the door fully and make sure the latch catches and the gasket seals all the way around.
  2. Check nothing, such as a crate or cart, is holding it ajar.
  3. Watch the room temperature and see whether the alarm clears as it recovers.
  4. If dor returns with the door shut, note that the door switch may be misreading and tell the technician.

How a technician diagnoses error code Dor

  1. Read active alarms and history, and note the room temperature and the alarm delay setting.
  2. Check the door, hinges, latch and gasket for sealing.
  3. Check the door switch alignment and its state on the controller with the door open and closed.
  4. Check the switch wiring for damage, moisture or a loose terminal.
  5. Adjust or replace the door switch only after confirming its state, then clear the alarm.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Checking the switch signal needs the controller's inputs and low-voltage wiring in the evaporator housing.
  • Door and latch repair on a walk-in often needs technician tools to realign the door and rebuild the seal.

How error code Dor differs from similar codes

Dor needs an open door plus warming. HtA is a sustained high room temperature with no door signal needed.

DorQuestions about Bally error code Dor
Why does dor need the room to warm up too?

The manual's trigger is door open with the room 5 degrees above the limit for the delay, so a short open door alone does not raise it.

Can dor appear with the door shut?

Yes, if the door switch reads open while the room is warming. The alarm is based on the switch signal, so a misaligned switch can trigger it.

Does dor mean the cooler is warm?

It means the door was open and the room was warming. Check the actual room temperature.
