Jackson Dishwasher Error Code F4: Check Incoming Power

F4 on a Jackson DishStar HT-E means the control detected a problem with the incoming power supply to the booster heater circuit. The manual lists incoming power not properly connected, or L3 missing on three-phase machines. This is an electrician or technician check.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the booster heater cannot work correctly without proper incoming power.

What does Jackson error code F4 mean?

A booster heater draws serious power, and on a three-phase machine every leg has to be present or the heater cannot work properly. The control watches the supply to the booster heater circuit and, when it sees a problem, shows "F4 Service needed" with the line "Check incoming power". The manual names two causes: the incoming power is not properly connected, or L3 is missing, which applies to three-phase machines only. The manual's actions are short: check the connections to the heater and verify L3 is present and connected properly. It does not give a voltage range or tell the operator to reset anything. Note the difference from F9. F4 concerns the booster heater circuit; F9 concerns the wash heater circuit, and both carry the same causes. A machine that shows F4 but not F9 therefore points to the booster side of the wiring.

What you may notice

  • Display reads F4 Service needed, Check incoming power
  • Booster heater does not warm the rinse water
  • Cycle may run with cold final rinse

Possible causes

Listed in Jackson's documentation

  • Incoming power not properly connected
  • L3 missing on three-phase machines

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code F4 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A breaker or fuse on one leg that has tripped or blown
  • A terminal at the heater that has loosened and overheated
  • A recent electrical change in the building that altered the machine's supply

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check at the breaker panel whether the breaker for the dishmachine is fully on.
  2. Do not open the machine or touch wiring; the connections are live.
  3. Turn the machine off and on again to see whether F4 returns.
  4. Tell the technician whether the machine is single-phase or three-phase, and whether any breaker tripped.

How a technician diagnoses error code F4

  1. Confirm F4 and the machine's electrical rating from the data plate.
  2. Lock out and inspect the connections to the booster heater for tightness and heat marks.
  3. Verify L3 is present at the supply and connected correctly on three-phase machines.
  4. Measure voltage on each leg with power restored, using proper safety gear.
  5. Correct the connection and run a full booster heat-up to confirm the code clears.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The supply to the heater is 208-240 V or higher and may be three-phase, which is dangerous to touch.
  • A missing leg can look like a failed heater unless it is measured with a meter.
  • The connections to the heater are inside a sealed section of the cabinet.

How error code F4 differs from similar codes

F4 is the booster-side supply check; F9 is the same wording for the wash heater. They have identical causes in the manual.

F4Questions about Jackson error code F4
Can I keep washing with F4 showing?

The control has flagged a problem with the booster heater's power, so the final rinse may not heat properly.

What does L3 mean?

L3 is the third leg of a three-phase supply. The manual says it can be missing on three-phase machines.

Will F4 clear after a restart?

Only if the power problem was temporary. A tripped breaker or loose terminal will bring it back.
